A quick summary of MF Ghost Episode 2

In the previous episode, the MFG qualification race featuring Kanata finally began. The scene then shifted to Mayuko and Mr Saionji, who were watching the race and were surprised to see Kanata competing under his father's last name, Katagiri. Mayuko suspected that he was trying to send a message to his estranged father.
Meanwhile, Ogata and Aiba discussed the race and noticed that Kanata was using an outdated H-pattern shifter instead of the standard dual-clutch paddle shifters. As a result, Aiba initially disregarded Kanata's initial ranking, thinking it was a system error. However, when Kanata advanced to the 53rd position and the central computer flagged his car, it became clear that this was not a mistake.
Aiba pondered over how Kanata had achieved such a remarkable position in a competition where cars with colossal horsepower reigned supreme. Ogata theorized that Kanata's remarkable ability to navigate corners was the essential factor.

As the race progressed on a downhill course, Kanata demonstrated his improving skills in the car and decided to increase his speed. Noticing Kanata's progress and entrance into the top 50, Fumihiro reached out to Ryosuke to inform him about Fujiwara's student participating in the race. Believing that Kanata had the potential to surpass the grip-to-weight ratio rule he had implemented, Ryosuke requested Fumihiro to keep a close watch on him.
Following a slight decline in Kanata's position after an uphill section, he pushed harder during the steep downhill segment, causing Aiba to become concerned. However, as Aiba observed Kanata's unwavering determination, he realized that Kanata was resolute in his goal of obtaining a position in the top 15.
As Kanata maneuvered through the dense fog in MF Ghost, he entered the treacherous death zone - a perilous section notorious for its frequent accidents. On top of that, the road presented additional obstacles, including cracks in the asphalt, dips, and various other challenges. However, Kanata possessed a crucial advantage as he had meticulously memorized the entirety of the 40-kilometer race course during his extensive study of the website's demo runs.
Once outside the death zone, Kanata was among the top thirty racers. But the most surprising moment was when he performed Fujiwara's super high-speed four-wheel drift.
What to expect in MF Ghost Episode 3?
MF Ghost Episode 3 will showcase an uncomfortable encounter between Kanata and Ren. If all goes according to plan, Kanata is set to secure a spot within the top 15, marking a remarkable feat for a newcomer. However, Kanata had been leveraging the downhill segment of the race until now. The final leg of the competition presents a level track, implying that Kanata's Toyota 86 will face a disadvantage.
