A devoted fan of the NHL’s Hurricanes, Murray’s celebration of life featured an appearance from Slavin, 30, one of the team’s biggest stars.

Slavin recalled a recent text conversation he had with Murray before his passing. They were discussing their team still being in the playoffs, even though they were trailing 3-0 in a series against the Rangers. Murray was very supportive and believed in their ability to turn things around.

Slavin shared that the exchange occurred when Murray was experiencing success in his golf career. Despite this, Murray used his faith to stay grounded.

During a conversation, Murray mentioned how his focus during a tournament was on humility after achieving a top-10 finish. When Slavin brought up Jesus being a symbol of humility, Murray responded with, "Bro, Jesus is everything. He's eternity."

Murray’s longtime coach and friend, Ted Kiegiel, then spoke about how Murray struggled with alcoholism in his last year.

“He was sober from the spring of ’23 to the spring of ’24,” Kiegiel revealed. “Once he achieved sobriety, it was like a veil lifted from his eyes. He transformed into a new person, thriving in every aspect of his life.”

Kiegiel helped Murray prepare for his first Masters appearance in April. Despite the career milestone, Murray found the most joy in sharing the experience with his fiancée, Christiana Ritchie.

After the event, Kiegel remembered Murray's words as they left the course. Murray expressed, "The highlight of this week was spending Wednesday with Christiana."

“He was so unselfish,” Kiegiel said while getting choked up. “That meant the world to him.”

With Ritchie sitting in the front row, Kiegiel told her, “He cared for you so much.”

Murray’s childhood best friend, Austin, then stepped up to speak. He shared a touching story, mentioning that he had written Murray's best man speech just a month ago, and now he was writing his eulogy.

Austin and Murray have been friends for decades, ever since they met in second grade. Austin fondly recalled the many memories they shared together.

Although Austin was there for Murray during his biggest career milestones, he found that supporting his friend during his tough times when he "was not mentally there" meant even more to him.

Austin reflected on his life, wondering if God placed him on Earth to support someone else. He felt that his purpose was to be there for that person, to listen and provide guidance when needed.

In addition, Austin mentioned that 2023 was a great year for Grayson, highlighting some positive recent memories.

Austin shared that he finally felt confident after losing weight, simplifying his life, and giving up alcohol. He mentioned how hitting the weights, finding himself, being happy, and loving life helped him find his purpose and rekindle his love for golf. He also expressed his appreciation for his phenomenal parents.

As Austin concluded his eulogy, he expressed his hope that the ceremony served as evidence that Murray's life had meaning. This sentiment held particular significance for Austin, as he often grappled with his own belief in the meaning of life.

Grayson Murray's parents, Eric and Terry, received assistance from family friend Jeff Maness in bringing their son's body back from his home in Florida. Jeff described the experience as "one of the most touching moments I've ever had."

During our time in Florida, we had a packed schedule," Maness shared. "If you want to see hard work in action, just watch Terry Murray. She's truly amazing. I noticed many people agreeing with me."

He added, "Her determination and strength are remarkable. While the men around her were feeling defeated, she stood tall and lifted us up. She made us resilient."
