US golfer Harry Higgs, who plays on the PGA Tour’s developmental tour, gave a heartfelt speech on Sunday. He won the Visit Knoxville Open and took a moment to reflect on how to honor Grayson Murray, who tragically passed away over the weekend.
The news of Murray's death was shared by the PGA Tour on Saturday. He had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas the day before, citing illness. Murray's parents later confirmed that he had taken his own life.
"We lost a member of our community this Saturday morning," Higgs expressed after the 32-year-old made history by winning back-to-back tournaments in a playoff on the Korn Ferry Tour in Knoxville, Tennessee. "He faced many challenges, but he was always open and honest about them. Last night, I was thinking about how we can honor Grayson.
"One idea that came to mind last night as I was lying in bed is to challenge all of you here today...and I will be joining in as well. Let's make it a point to say something kind to a loved one every day, and also take the time to say something nice to a stranger."
If we all pitch in, each one of us can make a positive impact and bring joy to someone's day. That small act of kindness could make a huge difference in someone's life.
Higgs shared that he had a hard time sleeping the night before the Visit Knoxville Open's final day. He was thinking about what to say in his winner's speech and how to pay tribute to Murray.

Higgs had a significant win at Holston Hills Country Club. This victory has propelled him to the No. 2 spot in the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. As a result, he is on track to automatically qualify for the PGA Tour in 2025.
Higgs mentioned that while golf is enjoyable and the outcomes are pleasing, it doesn't hold much significance to him. He acknowledged that he is not flawless, but he is committed to living by his words.
He expressed the importance of spreading kindness by complimenting a loved one and a stranger every day. This simple act is part of his daily routine, allowing him to focus on things he can control beyond the golf course and potentially brighten someone's day who may be struggling.
