Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's second DLC, The Indigo Disk, may introduce a Bug/Dragon-type Pokemon, breaking traditional type combinations.
The leaks and clues suggest that Dipplin may have a Bug/Dragon-type evolution, hinted by its ability to wield the Eviolite and detailed in its Pokedex entry. The introduction of new type combinations in Pokemon games, such as the possibility of a Bug/Dragon combination for Dipplin's evolution, would undoubtedly delight numerous fans who were disappointed when neither Flygon nor Yanmega received it.
The Teal Mask DLC in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may not have been as groundbreaking as the base Gen 9 games, but it appears to be setting the stage for The Indigo Disk expansion. This expansion continues the character arc of Kieran and introduces new characters, like the Loyal Three who apparently have a "master" that gave them their Toxic Chain Ability along with new powers. With leaks suggesting a second DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it's not surprising that The Indigo Disk will bring in new Pokemon, potentially including the first Bug/Dragon type. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced several Pokemon with unique type combinations, like Electric/Fighting and Fighting/Fairy, which broke the mold set by previous games. This sets a promising precedent for future games and what they can bring to the series, and the second DLC, The Indigo Disk, is expected to continue in this innovative direction by featuring a second set of Elite Four and making all past starters available. Adding a Bug/Dragon Pokemon would be another significant departure from tradition.
Dipplin's Evolution in The Indigo Disk Could be a Bug/Dragon Pokemon
The Indigo Disk is anticipated to introduce a new evolution for Dipplin, transforming it from a Grass type to a Bug type while retaining its Dragon characteristics. The inclusion of the Eviolite as a held item for the pocket monster further supports this idea, as it is typically used by partially evolved creatures to enhance their Defense and Special Defense. The possibility of a Bug/Dragon-type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has long been a hope for fans, who have envisioned combinations such as Flygon and Yanmega with this dual typing. Additionally, seeing Dipplin's evolution take on this type would be a pleasant surprise for those who did not anticipate its evolution and subsequent change in typing. Notably, there have been rumors from a reputable Pokemon insider, known as Riddler Khu, that Dipplin's evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may possess a total of seven heads.
After examining Dipplin's Pokedex entry, it becomes apparent that the critter is created by two distinct wyrms dwelling within a candy apple. The evolution of Dipplin potentially involves a total of seven wyrms contained within a single apple. Additionally, in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players can teach Dipplin the move Infestation, which is a Bug-type move that traps the user for seven turns. The significance of the number seven lends further credibility to the leaks. Notably, neither Flapple nor Appletun, the other two Applin evolutions, can learn Infestation.
The exclusivity of Infestation, a Bug-type move, to Dipplin within its evolutionary line adds weight to the argument for its potential evolution as a Bug/Dragon type. However, the strongest confirmation of this possibility comes from Khu's recent riddle. Khu poses a simple question, "Which?" and accompanies it with two images - one depicting a Grass type and the other a Bug type. The Indigo Disk deviates from tradition in various ways, and it would not be surprising to discover that it introduces a previously unseen type combination in the Pokemon games. Such a combination would align with the idea of Dipplin's wyrms "infesting" the apple, perhaps resulting in its decay.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for the Nintendo Switch.
