PlayStation's Epic Response to Starfield Leaves Fans in Awe

PlayStation subtly takes a jab at Xbox's exclusive title Starfield while promoting another game, hinting at the competitive rivalry between the two console giants

PlayStation appears to be indirectly criticizing Starfield while announcing changes to the release date of Baldur's Gate 3. Starfield, an exclusive game for the Xbox console, has generated a lot of excitement in recent years. Bethesda's new open-world science fiction RPG has sparked high expectations among fans.

When Starfield is released, it will face direct competition from Baldur's Gate 3, another highly anticipated RPG. What makes things even more interesting is that Baldur's Gate 3 will initially launch exclusively for the PS5 console, while Starfield is expected to remain exclusive to Xbox. However, Baldur's Gate 3 will eventually be available on Xbox as well.

The release date for the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 has been changed from August 31 to September 6, which is the same day as the launch of Starfield. This puts the two RPGs in direct competition. Sony tweeted about the release date change and emphasized that Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5 will have 60fps. In a blog post by Larian Studios, they further mentioned that the delay will allow them to achieve their goal of 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5. These statements may be seen as a jab at Starfield, as it will not have a 60fps option on Xbox and will only be available at 30 frames per second. While it could be a coincidence, it appears to be a deliberate move. The blog post mainly focused on Baldur's Gate 3 companions and character creation, making the emphasis on 60fps in the tweet seem like a targeted dig at the Xbox exclusive.

Bethesda's decision to lock Starfield at 30 frames per second on consoles suggests their confidence in the move, but fans will have the chance to assess it firsthand. Starfield's early access program grants those who purchase the Premium version or the Premium Upgrade with Game Pass the opportunity to experience the game as early as August 31 in selected regions. This allows players to determine whether the ambitious open world sci-fi RPG by Bethesda truly suffers significantly from the 30 fps lock. Starfield is set to be officially released on September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X.
