Indie Developer Succumbs to Fan Pressure, Brings Inspector Gadget to Xbox

Developer reverses decision on Xbox port due to overwhelming fan demand on social media for the upcoming multi-platform title Inspector Gadget - Mad Time Party, setting a new precedent for indie games on Xbox

Microids and indie developer Smart Tale have listened to the fervent requests of their fans and decided to bring Inspector Gadget - Mad Time Party to Xbox, despite its initial exclusion. The game was first announced for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on April 27 and features the iconic Inspector Gadget as he tries to save Metro City from the clutches of Dr. Claw. However, a mishap during time travel brings Inspector Gadget's ancestors to the present, requiring players to search for valuable parts to fix the time machine while battling Dr. Claw's minions. The announcement of this new game caused a stir among long-time Inspector Gadget fans, with many taking to social media to demand an Xbox version. This decision may set a precedent for future indie games on Xbox.

After receiving overwhelming demand from fans, Microids has confirmed that Inspector Gadget - Mad Time Party will be available digitally on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in fall 2023. The developers have assured that the new Xbox versions will be available for digital shipping on launch day, along with the PC, PS4, PS5, and Switch versions. This announcement comes just a day after a user inquired about the possibility of an Xbox version, to which the publisher responded that they would consider it if the demand was high enough.

However, Microids' initial response to the potential Xbox version of Inspector Gadget - Mad Time Party drew frustration from Xbox fans. Jez Corden from Windows Central and Tom Warren from The Verge commented directly under the publisher's tweet, with Corden suggesting that certain developers may view the Xbox platform's install base as too small to release their games on. Warren drew comparisons to the Windows Phone device, which was eventually discontinued after losing support from developers and Microsoft's partners.
