Opinions Split as Dave Filoni Assumes Control of Star Wars Franchise

Star Wars fans are left divided as the beloved franchise undergoes yet another transformation, with the introduction of Dave Filoni as a central figure in the galaxy far, far away

The Star Wars franchise has undergone significant changes over the years, and now a new character is set to dominate the distant galaxy. With the introduction of a new trilogy and a plethora of new shows, the universe of Star Wars has certainly evolved, for better or for worse.

Fans have another major change to discuss: Dave Filoni has assumed the role of Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. Though Filoni is most recognized for his work on Ashoka and The Mandalorian, fans have plenty to say about his new position.

Star Wars fans react to Dave Filoni

Filoni, who previously served as the producer for The Mandalorian and writer-producer-director for Ashoka, has been part of the Star Wars universe for almost two decades, having worked alongside George Lucas on the animated Clone Wars show. With his recent promotion, he will now play a more significant role in the decision-making and development of new Star Wars projects, collaborating closely with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and head of development Carrie Beck.

Filoni expressed his excitement about his promotion to Vanity Fair, stating, "In this new role, I have access to everything that's happening. I am involved from the very beginning when we're planning the future of our projects."

He clarified, "I'm not giving orders, but I do see myself as helping others to tell their best possible story. I aim to be a guiding presence across the galaxy, like a member of a Jedi Council."

But while Filoni clearly seems excited for the role, not every fan is on board. Check out some of the mixed responses given on X (formerly Twitter) below:

As for other projects Dave Filoni is currently involved in, such as a possible second season of Ashoka or the movie that aims to bring together all of the existing Star Wars shows, it appears that he is fully committed to these responsibilities. "In order to truly assist filmmakers, it was crucial for me to have firsthand experience," he explained. "I can also offer a perspective on the challenges that will come with telling these stories. I now feel more capable of providing assistance beyond just discussing the characteristics of Jedi and Sith."

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I have mixed feelings about Dave Filoni's promotion to Chief Creative Officer at Lucasfilm. On the one hand, I am excited to see what he will bring to the Star Wars franchise. Filoni has a proven track record of success with The Mandalorian and Ashoka, and I believe he has the vision and creativity to lead the franchise into a new era.

On the other hand, I am concerned that Filoni's promotion will lead to a more homogenized Star Wars universe. Filoni has a very specific style and vision for Star Wars, and I worry that he will not be open to new ideas and perspectives from other creators. I hope that he will be able to strike a balance between his own vision and the need for diversity in the Star Wars universe.

Overall, I am cautiously optimistic about Filoni's promotion. I believe he has the potential to be a great leader for the Star Wars franchise, but I will be keeping a close eye on his decisions to make sure that he does not take the franchise in a direction that I do not agree with.
