Following her first heartbreak, Olivia Rodrigo has not lost faith in the possibility of finding her forever love. In a recent interview with Vogue, the 20-year-old singer shared her desire to meet her future husband.
The Grammy winner, who achieved success with her debut album "Sour" in 2021, shared her anticipation for starting a family in the future. Rodrigo expressed her excitement about experiencing motherhood and mentioned that the thought crosses her mind frequently.
Although Rodrigo is in a positive mindset as she prepares for the release of her second album "GUTS," she attributed her personal and romantic struggles to be instrumental in her breakthrough in the music industry. Reflecting on being dumped as a teenager, she recalled that her most painful moment transformed into her biggest success.
Rodrigo gained widespread attention in January 2021 with the release of her first single, "Drivers License," which seemingly portrayed a complicated love triangle and difficult separation. Numerous fans speculated that the lyrics alluded to a rift between Rodrigo and her former co-star Joshua Bassett from "High School Musical: The Musical — The Series."
While Rodrigo and the 22-year-old Bassett were rumored to be romantically involved in 2020, they never publicly acknowledged their relationship. After their supposed breakup, Bassett started spending time with Sabrina Carpenter.
“And you're likely in the company of that blonde girl / Who constantly planted seeds of doubt within me / She possesses an age far beyond mine / She embodies all my deepest insecurities," Rodrigo serenades in a verse of the popular track "Drivers License," suggesting a reference to Carpenter, 24, as per online speculation.
Bassett released his own track titled "Lie Lie Lie" in January 2021, which some fans speculated was related to the rumors about his and Rodrigo's history. Carpenter, on the other hand, released her song "Skin" during the same month. Although it potentially alludes to Rodrigo, Carpenter insisted that it is not a "diss track."
Carpenter sings, "Perhaps we could have been friends if we had met in a different time." She later humorously remarks, "Avoid driving yourself crazy."
Rodrigo has never disclosed the identity of the boy who shattered her heart and served as inspiration for her debut album. With the release of "Vampire," the first single from her highly anticipated second album, fans are once again speculating about the subject of the song. Some clues suggest that it may be DJ Zack Bia, whom Rodrigo had a relationship with for approximately six months in 2022.
"In the chorus, she sings, 'I used to believe in my intelligence, but you exposed my innocence.' 'You exploited me for your own gain, devouring me mercilessly,' she adds, labeling him a 'bloodthirsty opportunist, obsessed with fame.' Meanwhile, some listeners speculate that the song alludes to Adam Faze, who ended his relationship with Rodrigo in February 2022, despite their brief one-year togetherness. The lyrics delves into a connection with an older man, with Rodrigo at 27 and Faze at 26."
Rodrigo explained to Vogue that she has grown as a songwriter amid the swirling rumors surrounding her songs. She stated that she is no longer a 17-year-old going through her first heartbreak and pouring her emotions into her lyrics.
Additionally, the former Disney Channel star hinted at the possibility of a new romantic interest in her life. Refusing to disclose any details, Rodrigo stated that she prefers to keep her love life private, despite understanding why her fans are curious.
