Olivia Rodrigo is admitting to a cringe-worthy blunder on social media.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on December 7, the 20-year-old singer revealed, "I try not to follow anyone because it helps me stay off my phone." She then shared an embarrassing moment where she unintentionally followed her ex while stalking his profile. "I was just following one person, so it was super obvious that I was following him," Rodrigo confessed.

Without naming the ex, Rodrigo's fans noticed in July 2022 that the singer briefly followed her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar Joshua Bassett. Rumors of a relationship between Rodrigo and Bassett emerged in 2020, although neither has confirmed the romance. However, this did not prevent fans from speculating that Rodrigo's hit "Drivers License" in 2021 was inspired by Bassett and his then-girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter, 24, whom he was linked with in the summer of 2020.

"You're likely with that blonde girl, the one who always made me question myself. She's so much older than me, and she embodies everything I feel insecure about," Rodrigo crooned in one verse.

Rodrigo admitted to host Jimmy Fallon that she attempted to fix the mistake of accidentally hitting the follow button.

"My friend burst into my room exclaiming, 'Oh, my God, did you accidentally follow him? Unfollow him!' I panicked and grabbed my phone, thinking, 'Oh no, oh, my God!' As I went to open the Instagram app, my phone suddenly died," she recounted on Thursday. "And I didn’t have my charger, so I ended up following my ex for a while. People thought I had been hacked and I just told them, 'Yeah, you guys, be safe!'"

To prevent a similar mishap in the future, Rodrigo assured Fallon, 49: "I have a finsta [fake Instagram] now, so I'm safe."

Rodrigo admitted to stalking an ex online but stated that she does not believe reuniting with them is wise. During an October interview with Pitchfork, she joked, "You guys, the sequel is never as good as the original. Never."

Rodrigo has been romantically linked to several other celebrities besides Bassett. As a teenager, she dated her former Bizaardvark costar Ethan Wacker. When a TikTok fan speculated in January 2021 that "Drivers License" was about Wacker, 21, he denied it by saying, "Nope. I treated her well."

Additionally, Rodrigo dated film producer Adam Faze, but the two split in February 2022 after less than a year of dating. That same month, rumors of a romance with DJ Zack Bia surfaced. In August 2022, a source confirmed that their relationship didn't last due to different work schedules and friend groups.
