Minx's Cancellation Shocks Fans After Network's Rescue Efforts

Starz saves Minx from cancellation, only to cancel it themselves The rollercoaster journey of this beloved series takes another dramatic twist

Initially saved from cancellation by Max, Starz has now decided to cancel the series Mix. The news of a show being canceled is always difficult to hear, especially for the creators. It's no surprise that fans often express their disappointment and hope for the show to be picked up by another network.

While protesting doesn't guarantee success, there have been instances where other studios have successfully saved a series from being canceled. An example of this is Brooklyn 99, which was initially canceled by Fox but was later picked up by NBC for three more seasons. Unfortunately, not all rescue attempts are successful, as seen with Starz's Minx, which has now been canceled for a second time.

Minx gets canceled a second time

In an exclusive report by Variety, it appears that Minx, the 70s comedy period piece, has been canceled by Starz after two seasons.

The show is facing its second shutdown after its first season aired on HBO's streaming service Max. Despite being renewed for a second season, it was cancelled due to cost-cutting measures. Fortunately, Starz was able to acquire the second season and aired it alongside the first on July 21. The series featured notable actors including Ophelia Lovibond, Jake Johnson (who also acted as a co-executive producer), Jessica Lowe, Idara Victor, Michael Angarano, Lennon Parham, Oscar Montoya, and Elizabeth Perkins.

Ellen Rapoport created "Minx" and also served as showrunner and executive producer, with Paul Feig and Dan Magnante as executive producers for Feigco Entertainment.

The show received strong praise from critics, earning a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it did not connect as well with audiences, reflected in its 53% Audience Rating, which may have contributed to its cancellation. The low viewership, with average linear airings on Starz averaging less than 100,000 viewers per episode for the second season, likely played a role as well.

At present, there are no indications that another network is considering picking up Minx for a third attempt or scheduling future streaming dates. However, both seasons are currently available for streaming on the Starz app. For additional coverage of Movies & TV, visit here or explore our coverage of the following topics:

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I am deeply disappointed by the news of Minx's cancellation. The show was a breath of fresh air, offering a unique and hilarious take on the 1970s feminist movement. The characters were well-developed and relatable, and the storylines were both thought-provoking and entertaining. I was particularly impressed by the show's portrayal of strong female characters who were not afraid to challenge the status quo. Minx was a show that resonated with me on a personal level, and I am saddened that it will not be returning for a third season.

I understand that the show's viewership numbers were not as high as Starz had hoped, but I believe that this was due to a lack of promotion rather than a lack of interest. Minx was a hidden gem that deserved a wider audience. I am hopeful that another network will pick up the show and give it the chance to reach its full potential. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy the first two seasons of Minx and hope that we will see more of these characters in the future.
