Idara Victor & Oscar Montoya Talk Minx Season 2
: Idara Victor and Oscar Montoya Reflect on the Emotional Roller Coaster of Minx's Cancellation and Character Evolution since Season 1.Screen Rant: I've got to say, I was devastated when Minx got canceled. For you guys, it must have been a roller coaster because weren't you filming season 2?
Idara Victor: It was a surprising experience for all of us. We were taken aback by the news, especially since HBO had always been supportive and fond of our show. It made us question how this could happen. However, it was fortunate that we were together when we received the news, as we could find solace in each other and provide support during our last days of shooting. We were proud of our accomplishments thus far and wanted to finish what we had started.
Oscar Montoya: We are delighted that our show has found a new home where it will be showcased. It brings us joy knowing that the world will now have the opportunity to appreciate it just as much as we loved working on it.
Screen Rant: This season is exceptional. The growth of the characters is remarkable. Can you discuss their development since the beginning of season 1?
Idara Victor: In season 1, Tina was in a comfortable position. Having been there for 10 years, Bottom Dollar was running smoothly. However, Minx's arrival disrupted everything. This gave Tina the chance to reassess her role and fight for what she deserves. Season 2 further explores Tina's journey, especially as the magazine expands and the characters reunite.
Oscar Montoya: I completely agree. I'm going to use the picture analogy to explain how my character has evolved. In the first season, I wanted to be the one capturing the image of the Bottom Dollar crew, and I succeeded in doing so. However, in the second season, I no longer want to be the one taking the picture. Instead, I want to be a part of the picture itself. This shift represents the change in my character.
Idara Victor: Absolutely. Absolutely.
Screen Rant: I love that so much, because one of my favorite scenes is when Ritchie is pitching the bathhouse centerfold. I was so mad for you in that moment.
Oscar Montoya: Unfair! Right!
Idara Victor: It's very unfair, yeah.
Oscar Montoya: But there was something truly remarkable about that scene, especially when it transitioned to Idara's powerful interaction with Ophelia about rejecting people. Personally, that was my favorite scene. The way you conversed with Joyce in that moment was absolutely beautiful.
Idara Victor: That particular scene was definitely one of our favorites to film. We even acknowledged it that day, like, "Wow, this is an incredible scene to bring to life." I believe every actor in that scene did an outstanding job. What I loved most was witnessing the vulnerability in Joyce's demeanor and her struggle to navigate that moment. Additionally, we had a glimpse into Joyce's background as she opened up about her mother for the first time. We also gained insight into Tina's character, as I shared my own story about my mom. Later on, we are introduced to my mom to understand why she influenced me in learning to assertively say no.
