Jake Johnson & Ophelia Lovibond Talk Minx Season 2
Minx Stars Open Up About Season Two and the Series' Unexpected CancellationIn a recent interview with Screen Rant, Jake Johnson and Ophelia Lovibond, the stars of Minx, discuss their experiences during season two's filming and the surprising cancellation of the series. Despite the setback, Johnson shares a secret that kept him unfazed by the news. Additionally, the actors express their excitement for fans to witness certain aspects of the new season and delve into their admiration for the compelling dynamic portrayed by Joyce and Doug.
Screen Rant: I was devastated when this show was canceled, so I was very excited to see it come back. What was that rollercoaster like for you guys?
Jake Johnson mentioned that their experience was not as long or dramatic as the listener's. He explained that they were aware of the new streamers who showed genuine interest from the start, which reassured them that they would find a suitable opportunity. Ophelia Lovibond added that they did not have any concerns or anxieties about their situation.
Jake Johnson: It was a requirement for us to keep the announcement under wraps until the deal was finalized. What truly felt amazing was hearing from individuals like yourself who had such a positive reaction. There are instances where you create products and people simply don't show interest, despite putting in the same level of effort. So, the fact that we created something we are passionate about and that resonated with people like you, it was genuinely gratifying. I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement knowing that we would eventually have a release date and that people would have the opportunity to see our work.
Screen Rant: I thoroughly enjoy the back and forth between Joyce and Doug. Their interaction constantly evolves, but there is always a hint of volatility. How do you personally feel about the dynamic between these two characters?
Ophelia Lovibond: Playing those scenes is an absolute blast. The chemistry between our characters is incredible, as we have the same goals but approach them in completely different ways. That's where the humor shines. Working with Jake is a joy because we both enjoy adding our own improvisation to the mix. While we stick to the script, we also take a few takes to explore and see what magic unfolds from our playfulness.
Jake Johnson: It's a great experience for Ophelia. I used to coach her in acting, so she's filled with enthusiasm and excitement.
Ophelia Lovibond: However, I had to terminate his position.
Jake Johnson: No, but the dynamics between them are incredibly enjoyable. It has been enjoyable from the start. It's always fascinating when the storyline evolves. Nevertheless, Doug and Joyce remain the same, regardless of their circumstances. Their feelings for each other will always stay the same. I believe that in the future of the show, considering the conclusion of season two, they will need to reunite. They must regain some form of equality in their relationship. It will be difficult for both of them, but they will each have to make a significant sacrifice to reconcile.
Screen Rant: One of my favorite scenes is when you're on the ground Jake, literally measuring the office. It's fantastic.
Jake Johnson: It's really enjoyable about the show, and I appreciate your comment on that, because it adds to the fun we have. The show revolves around an ego battle, where each character believes they are in charge and right. It's a great feeling when our characters clash and argue their righteousness. So, I believe that's a major source of enjoyment in the show - determining who holds the power within the group. If you observe the crew, they all follow Joyce except for Shelley, who is always by her side. The rest of them go with the flow, aligning themselves with either Doug or Joyce depending on the circumstances. Hence, it becomes a competition for supremacy.
Screen Rant: What aspect of season 2 are you most eager for fans to witness?
Ophelia Lovibond: I am eager to witness their reaction to the larger storylines, as well as the arrival of Constance, which is sure to stir things up. Filming those scenes felt distinct, so I am intrigued to see how it will be received. It can be challenging to gauge audience response when you are in the secluded environment of a set.
Jake Johnson: I cannot wait for them to witness Doug's exceptional work with the dancers. He really did a fantastic job with those guys.
Ophelia Lovibond: I believe they will be well received.
Jake Johnson: Their performance was outstanding. Bambi, in particular, was exceptional. Joyce made a significant error by not pursuing that idea. It has the potential to be a major financial success. I'm eagerly anticipating the audience's response, as well as Doug's, because this is undeniably a significant victory.
Ophelia Lovibond: I enjoyed watching that episode.
