Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka episode 8
Summary
Ahsoka's latest galaxy, Peridea, may have been previously explored by Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka themselves, as per a new Star Wars theory. This possibility indicates a potential link between the two locations. The discovery of the Mortis god statues in episode 8 of Ahsoka further strengthens the belief that Peridea and Mortis are closely intertwined, potentially even being the same world.
Peridea and Mortis are known as realms of dreams and insanity, hinting that future seasons of Ahsoka could delve deeper into the Force mythology and introduce supernatural elements. If Peridea and Mortis are indeed one and the same, it could greatly expand the lore.
As per a new Star Wars theory, Ahsoka's recent journey may not have been her first encounter with the extragalactic world of Peridea. It is believed that Ahsoka, along with her master Anakin Skywalker and his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, might have visited Peridea in the past, as hinted by a significant connection found in The Clone Wars. Therefore, it is possible that Peridea is more commonly referred to by a different name.
In Ahsoka's final episode, Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) has set off on a personal journey, leaving behind his apprentice and the mission to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn back to the known galaxy. It has become clear that serving Thrawn's agent Morgan Elsbeth was just a means to reach a mythical and legendary galaxy. Now, Baylan is determined to uncover the truth and immense power behind these tales, which leads him to discover towering statues depicting the Ones, the eternal Force beings from the planet Mortis, first introduced in The Clone Wars season 3. This discovery has sparked a new theory suggesting that Peridea and Mortis may be one and the same.
Obi-Wan & Anakin Traveled Outside The Galaxy In The Clone Wars
In The Clone Wars season 3, there was a previous instance in which Star Wars ventured outside the familiar galaxy. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka, who was then Anakin's apprentice, found themselves unexpectedly transported to Mortis. Upon arrival, Obi-Wan confirmed that he was unable to determine their location within the galaxy or whether they were still in their own galaxy.
Considering this, the mentioned line by Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars' Mortis arc holds great significance. After all, the existence of Peridea as the only other planet discovered beyond the known galaxy strengthens the notion that there might be a connection between these two unique planets, even without considering the imposing statues of the Ones.
Both Mortis & Peridea Are Tied To The Mortis Gods
On Mortis, the Jedi trio crossed paths with the immortal beings known as the Father, Son, and Daughter. As the fulcrum of the Force's flow throughout the galaxy, the Son represented the dark side, while the Daughter personified the light side. The Father's mission was to maintain a delicate balance between his children. Acknowledging Anakin as the prophesied Chosen One, the Father aspired for Skywalker to succeed him. Tragically, all three of these beings perished during the Mortis arc of the Clone Wars, just before the Jedi were transported back to the known galaxy.
Upon Baylan's discovery of the Mortis god statues in Episode 8 of Ahsoka, it becomes evident that there is a profound connection between Peridea and Mortis. The existence of these monuments implies that the Ones, at some point in time, visited this world and were potentially revered by the Nightsisters. It is now confirmed that Peridea was the original homeland of the Force witches, which has sadly deteriorated over time. However, it is apparent that there is much more to unveil about Peridea in future seasons of Ahsoka.
Peridea Is Described As A Place Of Dreams & Madness
Hopefully, Lucasfilm will give the green light to a second season of Ahsoka, allowing the ongoing enigmas of Peridea to unfold. Since Baylan and his apprentice Shin Hati arrived on Peridea with Morgan Elsbeth, they have been drawn to a strong and mysterious force. Unfortunately, the finale of Ahsoka did not provide any clarity on the identity of this force. However, the presence of the Mortis god statues strongly suggests a connection, possibly even to the Legends history of the Ones and the formidable Star Wars antagonist known as Abeloth. In the Legends lore, the Ones had ties to other undisclosed worlds prior to Mortis, and it is conceivable that Peridea could be one of them.
In Ahsoka, Peridea is depicted as a realm where dreams and madness intertwine. Similarly, Mortis can also be characterized by this description. Throughout their brief stay on this otherworldly plane, the trio of Jedi from the Clone Wars series encountered a whirlwind of both extraordinary dreams and unsettling madness.
On Mortis, Obi-Wan experienced a vision from his master Qui-Gon, while Ahsoka received dire warnings from what appeared to be her future self. Tano later succumbed to the dark side and was killed, only to be revived by Anakin and the power of the Daughter. Anakin himself fell under the manipulation of the Son, who disguised himself as his mother and showed him a glimpse of his dark future as Darth Vader. This caused Anakin to briefly succumb to the dark side, until the Father erased those memories from his mind.
It is logical to assume that those who remained on Peridea during Ahsoka's final moments have only just begun to delve into the realm of dreams and madness. If Peridea and Mortis are indeed the same planet in the future of the Star Wars universe, the second season of Ahsoka could potentially delve even deeper into the supernatural. By continuing to explore Peridea, the lore of the Force could expand in unique ways, similar to how The Clone Wars expanded the mythology with the original Mortis story arc and the introduction of the Ones.
Is Peridea Another Name For Mortis?
The extragalactic world in Ahsoka, known as Peridea, was revealed to be just one of the names associated with it in myths. This raises the possibility that Mortis could be another one of those names. This theory gains credibility with the discovery of Mortis god statues by Baylan and the sighting of a glowing beacon or glint on a mountain in the distance, which aligns with the Father statue pointing towards it across a forested valley, as seen in Ahsoka's finale.
This connection becomes even more intriguing when considering that the monastery tower of Mortis in The Clone Wars was situated on a peak surrounded by mountains, and had a glowing diamond at its pinnacle, much like the one seen on the mountain. These hints strongly suggest that Peridea and Mortis are likely the same place, with Peridea being an alternate name for the home world of the Force gods. Confirming this would have significant implications for the lore, linking the Mortis gods with the Nightsisters and foreshadowing a highly significant future for the Star Wars galaxy as a whole.
