Summary
Jedi Master Orla Jareni wields a switchblade lightsaber, similar to the one seen in Rey’s vision of herself turning to the dark side.
In the Japanese edition of "The High Republic: Into the Dark," Orla Jareni appears in Jedi robes of a cream color. It is noteworthy that Orla Jareni's golden switchblade lightsaber may have had an impact on Rey's character development, considering that her final lightsaber blade in The Rise of Skywalker shares the same hue.
The High Republic introduced intriguing designs for Jedi and their weapons, and official artwork from Star Wars offers a clearer glimpse at a familiar switchblade lightsaber. Claudia Gray's novel, "The High Republic: Into the Dark," delves into Jedi history centuries before the original trilogy. Set on the fringes of known space, the story explores the catastrophic Great Hyperspace Disaster that decimated numerous moons. Among the Jedi Masters involved is Orla Jareni, who had recently declared herself a Jedi Wayseeker. What Is A Jedi Wayseeker?
The artwork has been specifically created for the Japanese version of The High Republic: Into the Dark, featuring the character's name written in Japanese characters within the caption. It is worth noting that Orla Jareni's switchblade lightsaber shares the same golden hue as Rey's final lightsaber blade seen in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, suggesting that Orla Jareni may have had an influence on Rey's character arc.
During the era known as the High Republic, the Jedi Order possessed certain distinctions that have yet to be recognized in the live-action canon. The Wayseekers, a group of Jedi who operated independently from the official Jedi Order, maintained their status as Jedi while operating outside the jurisdiction of the High Council. They were still able to participate in Jedi missions and offer assistance with interplanetary matters, but they did so without being bound by the directives of the High Council.
The practice of designating Wayseekers fell out of use within the Jedi Order during the time of the Star Wars prequel series. However, records of the Wayseekers' history still existed. When Obi-Wan Kenobi was a Padawan, he learned about the concept and speculated that his unconventional Master, Qui-Gon Jinn, would have become a Wayseeker if given the opportunity. Despite the tradition fading away, Star Wars has shown that Wayseekers continued to impact future generations of Jedi.
