There is evidence suggesting that the Xbox console exclusive Somerville may soon be available on PlayStation, which wouldn't be surprising given the history of the co-founder of Jumpship. His previous titles, Limbo and Inside, were released on multiple platforms, not just Xbox. Coincidentally, this news comes just days after another former Xbox exclusive was unexpectedly made available on PlayStation.

Somerville, the debut game from British studio Jumpship, was co-founded by Dino Patti, known for his work on Limbo and Inside developed by Playdead. Similar to those acclaimed titles, Somerville combines platforming and physics-based puzzles, featuring a captivating story and an eerie atmosphere. Despite not reaching the same level of universal acclaim as Limbo or Inside, Somerville has gained recognition as one of the top games available on Xbox Game Pass since its release in November 2022.

Exophase, an achievement tracker, recently discovered a list of Somerville achievements on the PlayStation Network, indicating that this Xbox console exclusive may soon be arriving on Sony's consoles. The newly uncovered list includes 11 gold and platinum trophies, mirroring the game's achievements on PC and Xbox. While the source refers to Somerville as a PS4 release, it would also be playable on the PS5 due to the console's backward compatibility feature.

In a May 2023 interview with Sports Illustrated, Patti disclosed that Jumpship had reached a favorable agreement with Microsoft to ensure that Somerville would be available on Xbox Game Pass from its initial release day. Although the studio has not officially confirmed any timed exclusivity on Xbox, it is plausible considering Patti's statement that he still prefers traditional game sales rather than distribution via Xbox Game Pass.

Recently uncovered PS4 achievements indicate that the presumed period of timed exclusivity for Somerville on Xbox is nearing its end. Based on Patti's past record with his other studio, it is likely that Jumpship will not be satisfied with bringing their first game to Sony's consoles only after its PC and Xbox debut. Similar to Limbo and Inside, which were released on various platforms including Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, Jumpship may seek to expand Somerville's availability to a wide range of platforms.

Somerville would not be the first game to transition from Xbox to PlayStation in recent times. Previously, High on Life, a unique sci-fi FPS developed by Squanch Games, made a similar jump. Squanch Games was founded by Justin Roiland, the creator of Rick and Morty. Interestingly, Ebb Software also announced that Scorn, their Xbox console exclusive, will be released on the PS5 in the last quarter of 2023, prior to the unexpected PlayStation release of High on Life.
