Highlights
Episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka include Easter eggs and references to Star Wars games like Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.
"The Eye of Sion" structure could potentially be a nod to the character Darth Sion and the flagship featured in the series. Additionally, there are possible allusions to the utilization of HK droids and the star map, which share resemblances with the games. Furthermore, an ancient extraterrestrial species is briefly mentioned, adding to the list of potential references.
With the release of the first two episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka on Disney Plus, fans have eagerly delved into them to uncover hidden Easter eggs and references, much like an exceptionally thorough baggage check agent. However, there is one detail that doesn't require much searching, provided one knows what to look for.
In episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka, there is an abundance of content for both die-hard Star Wars fans and newcomers alike. Notably, there is a touching tribute to the late star of the series, Ray Stevenson. He portrays Baylan Skoll, one of the two new Force-users who assist in the quest to find the beloved character Grand Admiral Thrawn from the past Star Wars Legends stories that are no longer considered canon. As Baylan and his apprentice Shin Hati (played by Ivanna Sakhno) aid their employer Morgan Elsbeth (played by Diana Lee Inosanto) in this search, the series subtly nods to a pair of iconic Star Wars video games.
Almost immediately after the episodes premiered, Reddit was inundated with Star Wars fans speculating about potential Easter eggs. User doctoranonrus highlighted an interesting connection involving a colossal structure that was being repaired using a stolen hyperdrive core. This structure, known as "The Eye of Sion," appears to be the flagship that will embark on a journey to a new galaxy where Thrawn is rumored to be awaiting. Intriguingly, "The Eye of Sion" shares its name with Darth Sion, a villain from the iconic Star Wars video game, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.
Darth Sion's eerie eye is a significant physical characteristic that strongly suggests it was intentional. It is not only a name reference; others pointed out additional potential connections to the beloved BioWare and Obsidian RPGs. Some users mentioned the prominent presence of HK droids, which is a nod to the dry-witted fan-favorite assassin droid HK-47 from those games. Moreover, the star map used by both the heroes and villains bears striking visual similarities to the star maps seen in the first Knights of the Old Republic, where the protagonist had to locate them on various worlds.
But it doesn't stop there. Other users chimed in with their speculations. One user proposed that Baylan's mention of a great power in another galaxy could be referring to the Star Forge from the first Knights of the Old Republic. This enormous structure had the unique ability to mass-produce new starships rapidly, which could possibly explain how Palpatine's fleet was constructed in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. Furthermore, Morgan's reference to an ancient alien race caught the attention of fans, suggesting it could potentially be a reference to the Rakatan, an ancient alien race featured in the first game mentioned earlier. It is important to note that Star Wars has a plethora of ancient alien races, so it could also be referencing any other race.
If there's anything Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni has made abundantly clear, it's his admiration for the Knights of the Old Republic games. These references might initially seem like mere nods to the past, with no intention of integrating them into the Star Wars canon. However, given the abundance of Easter eggs, it's highly unlikely that they will remain insignificant callbacks. It wouldn't be surprising to witness at least one of these nods to KOTOR develop into something truly captivating for fans. So make sure to continue watching Ahsoka to unveil the mystery.
New episodes of Ahsoka premiere on Disney Plus every Tuesday.
