To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Studio Bones, the creators of popular anime like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and My Hero Academia, has introduced a captivating tech noir anime called Metallic Rouge. Here's everything you should know about this exciting new series.
The first episode of Metallic Rouge was exclusively screened at Anime NYC 2023 for fortunate fans. Despite Studio Bones keeping most of the intriguing aspects of this mecha series a secret, we have gathered all the available information. Here is everything we currently know about Metallic Rouge.
Is there a Metallic Rouge release date?
Metallic Rouge will debut in January 2024, but we don’t have a specific release date yet.
In July 2023, Metallic Rouge unveiled its initial teaser trailer, accompanied by the announcement of its release timeframe. Viewers can catch it on Fuji TV (+Ultra) in Japan, while those outside of Asia can enjoy it through simultaneous streaming on Crunchyroll.
Metallic Rouge plot
In contrast to many popular anime series, Metallic Rouge is not based on any preexisting source material. Nevertheless, the anime's official website synopsis hints at a contemporary take on a timeless mecha narrative.
Cast and crew
Set in a society where humans and androids live together, the narrative centers around a female android named Rouge and her partner Naomi. Together, they embark on a critical assignment on Mars tasked with eliminating nine government-opposing androids.
The team behind Metallic Rouge brings together a talented group with extensive experience in sci-fi anime. Leading the way as chief director is Yutaka Izubuchi, renowned for his work on Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. Assisting him is Motonobu Hori, an animator from Spirited Away, Toshizo Nemoto, the screenwriter for Ultraman R/B, Toshihiro Kawamoto, the character designer and co-founder of Cowboy Bebop director and studio bones, and the composer Taisei Iwasaki.
As for the cast, two names have been announced thus far. Yume Miyamoto, known for her role in GJ Club, will lend her voice to Rouge Redstar, while Tomoyo Kurosawa, from Yuki Yuna is a Hero, will voice Naomi Orthmann.
Metallic Rouge trailer
Studio Bones clearly has high expectations for this project, evident from the impressive lineup of the announced crew. However, you'll have to wait until January 2024 to witness the anticipated success firsthand.
On October 15, Crunchyroll released the series third official teaser trailer.
In this trailer, anime fans are introduced to Rouge and Naomi, the main characters and special investigators of the show, along with an optimistic storyline. The preceding teasers also provide a contrasting glimpse of what to anticipate: a grimy industrial backdrop, action-packed mecha sequences, and main characters donning power armor.
Is there a Metallic Rouge theme song?
There is currently no official announcement regarding the theme song. Nevertheless, Crunchyroll unveiled a "special music clip" on November 20, introducing one of the tracks that will be included in the forthcoming sci-fi anime's soundtrack: Crimson Lightning.
The composition of the song in this show is credited to Taisei Iwasaki. In the 2:30 video, previously unseen footage is seamlessly integrated with the lyrics, providing a tantalizing glimpse into the forthcoming intense battles expected in this mecha series. Additionally, the video reveals a darker element that surpasses the implications from the trailer released in October.
