Meghan McCain, 39, is choosing not to succumb to the pressure of using popular weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. During the Friday, May 17th episode of her podcast "Citizen McCain", she shared her reasons for avoiding the medication and also stood up against body shamers.
I don't enjoy being on camera as much anymore because most of the comments are about my weight. People say I look like Brendan Fraser in The Whale or that I only went on Watch What Happens Live! for food," she shared, referring to her recent appearance on Andy Cohen's talk show.
McCain mentioned that she understands celebrities who talk about using weight-loss medications. However, she doesn't want to lose weight, so she sees no need to take them.
"I'm hesitant to try Ozempic, get a breast lift, or undergo liposuction because I'm afraid of surgery," she explained. Later, she added, "People often bring up these options to me and message me about them. However, I don't feel the need to take medication or undergo procedures because I feel healthy. I had a physical in January this year."
Why Meghan McCain Doesnt Want to Go on Ozempic
"I don't want to put a test drug in my body just to meet someone else's standards. I still feel a lot of pressure."
McCain revealed that shortly after giving birth to her second daughter, Clover, in January 2023, she was pressured to try Ozempic. She is also a mother to three-year-old Liberty, her daughter with husband Ben Domenech.
In a February op-ed for the Daily Mail, McCain expressed her shock and frustration at being pushed to take Ozempic as a supposed "miracle shot" to quickly address postpartum issues. She found the situation horrifying, unfair, and unsettling, ultimately choosing to refuse the treatment.
Several celebrities, including Chelsea Handler, Kate Winslet, Amy Schumer, Crystal Kung Minkoff, and Garcelle Beauvais, have been vocal about their decision not to use medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro. Some of them had tried the drug in the past but chose to stay away from it.
During an appearance on WWHL in June 2023, Schumer shared her experience with the medication, saying she felt so sick that she couldn't even play with her son. Despite the initial trial, she decided that the side effects were too severe for her to continue using it.
