Ogerpon, the mascot for The Teal Mask in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, is a Gen 9 Legendary Pokemon that trainers will automatically capture upon completing the part 1 DLC. Similar to other Legendary Pokemon, Ogerpon possesses above-average base stats and can become a formidable opponent with the appropriate moveset.

Creating a moveset for Ogerpon in Scarlet/Violet follows the same process as any other mainline Pokemon game. Players should aim to raise Ogerpon's level to unlock more moves, while also having the option to utilize TMs. Furthermore, depending on the Mask it holds, Ogerpon can acquire an additional typing, thus providing versatility for its trainers.

How to Get Ogerpon

To obtain Ogerpon quickly, players must progress through The Teal Mask story. They will eventually face Ogerpon in four consecutive battles, each time against a different form. The capture of Ogerpon is guaranteed, making the primary challenge defeating her. Trainers who have not yet finished the main quest "The Way Home" will encounter a level 20 Ogerpon, while those who have completed it will face a level 70 Ogerpon.

Once captured, trainers must include Ogerpon in their party before battling Carmine to officially conclude The Teal Mask. Alternatively, players can choose to train Ogerpon for future battles.

Ogerpon is a swift attacker, boasting the highest Attack and Speed stats, while her Special Attack lags behind. Her signature move, Ivy Cudgel, is a physical Grass-type move that should always be included in her moveset. The type of Ivy Cudgel varies depending on the Mask she wears. When equipped with the Teal Mask, Ogerpon's Ivy Cudgel is a Grass-type attack. However, when she dons the Hearthflame Mask, it becomes a Fire-type move. Likewise, the Wellspring Mask transforms it into a Water-type move, and the Cornerstone Mask changes it to Rock-type. Each Mask also grants Ogerpon a different Ability and a secondary Typing. For instance, wearing the Hearthflame Mask bestows her with the Grass/Fire Typing and the Moldbreaker Ability. It's important to note that the Masks do not replace Ogerpon's primary Grass typing, so she may still be susceptible to the same weaknesses as when she is in her Teal Mask or regular form.

It is crucial to bear in mind that utilizing a Mask can enhance the range of type advantages for Ogerpon but also make her more susceptible to weaknesses. If Ogerpon chooses to wear the Cornerstone Mask, transforming her into a Grass/Rock-type, she will become susceptible to Steel-type moves, a weakness she wouldn't have if she remained solely a Grass-type. Best Moves & Best Nature for Ogerpon

Ogerpon performs at her best with an Adamant Nature (+Attk, - Sp.Attk) or a Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Sp.Attk) due to her high Attack and Speed stats. It is generally advised not to choose Natures that decrease her Attack growth or favor her Special Attack. Trainers can acquire Nature Mints from Chansey Supply after obtaining seven Gym Badges if they wish to change Ogerpon's Nature. Alternatively, they may find a Timid or Adamant Mint in Paldea, although this is not guaranteed.

When it comes to moves, Ogerpon excels in physical attacks rather than special attacks. Despite being a Grass-type Pokemon, she can learn or remember Throat Chop (Dark-type) and three different Fighting-type moves. The majority of Ogerpon's learnset consists of Grass-type and Normal-type moves. Therefore, trainers should consider utilizing TMs to enhance Ogerpon's battle potential and create a balanced move set.

Here are some suggested movesets for Ogerpon:

While Low Sweep is replaceable, it is worth considering as it not only deals damage but also reduces the opponent's Speed by one stage upon successfully hitting. With 100% accuracy and 20 PP, it is a useful move to have, especially for Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon.

Play Rough and Zen Headbutt are moves that provide Ogerpon with coverage against specific types. Play Rough is particularly effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-type Pokemon, while Zen Headbutt works well against Poison and Fighting-type Pokemon. Play Rough covers Ogerpon's weaknesses and Zen Headbutt complements its Grass-typing. Considering this, Zen Headbutt may be the preferred choice, as it also has a chance to make the opponent flinch. However, Play Rough has the additional benefit of lowering the opponent's Attack and has slightly improved accuracy compared to Zen Headbutt.

Which Ogerpon Form is The Best?

Throat Chop is a Dark-type move that effectively disables sound-based attacks for two turns. One example of a sound-based move is Skeledirge's Torch Song. However, since the usefulness of Throat Chop depends on the situation, trainers may opt to replace it with another Dark-type move or choose a different move altogether. In the case of preferring a Grass-type move, Horn Leech is highly recommended.

Ogerpon may acquire a second typing from the Masks, but its lack of ability to learn Fire/Water/Rock-type moves through leveling up or TMs puts it at a slight disadvantage. Similar to Oricorio, it is preferable to utilize Ogerpon for its primary typing rather than its (potential) secondary typing. Nonetheless, trainers have the option to equip the Hearthstone Mask, which neutralizes its vulnerability to Ice-type attacks, or the Cornerstone Mask, which eliminates its weaknesses to Poison and Flying types. The Wellspring Mask grants Ogerpon the advantageous Water Absorb ability, making it a noteworthy consideration.

When Terastallized, Ogerpon's typing matches the Mask she's wearing. Her Ability becomes Embody Aspect, which does the following:

Teal Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Speed.

Hearthflame Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Attack.

Wellspring Mask: Raises Ogerpon's Special Defense.

The Cornerstone Mask is designed to enhance Ogerpon's Defense.
