Ice blocks are back in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and they can be quite bothersome for players looking to progress through important areas such as Shrines and caves. These large blocks of ice can be found throughout the Hebra region and Mount Lanayru, and players will need to use significant firepower to melt them.
Fortunately, Tears of the Kingdom offers a wider range of options for players to melt these ice blocks compared to its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. While lighting fires and using elemental weapons remain viable strategies, players can also take advantage of new materials found throughout Hyrule's ever-changing landscape.
Where To Find Ice

One effective method for melting ice quickly is to utilize the Zonai Flame Emitter combined with a weapon or shield. However, if players do not have access to this tool, there are alternative approaches to consider. For instance, placing a fire source in close proximity to the ice block can also be effective. Additionally, players can try throwing Fire Fruit or using a torch to heat up the ice and accelerate the melting process.
One alternative method to melt ice in the game is to use a Ruby Rod, which involves fusing a ruby with a Magic Rod. By equipping the weapon and standing next to the block of ice, Link can melt the ice without losing any durability on the weapon. However, this approach may take longer than using the Flame Emitter option since the latter provides a continuous stream of fire. To speed up the process, players can place two or three Flame Emitters on the ground and turn them on simultaneously.
After an ice block has melted, icicles may appear as leftover pieces of the block. Those who have visited The Wind Temple during the “Tulin of Rito Village” main quest may be familiar with Link's ability to fuse icicles to clubs and spears. This creates long-range weapons that can cause significant damage.
