Ranged combat has always been a fundamental aspect of Soulslike games, but Lords of the Fallen takes it to the next level with an innovative system that places projectile flinging at the core of combat, regardless of a player's chosen build. Although the game primarily revolves around close-quarter combat, the developers have thoughtfully incorporated ranged weapons into a character's arsenal. Bows, crossbows, and throwing weapons remain optional, but they have been seamlessly integrated in a manner that fosters imaginative utilization. This comprehensive guide encompasses everything one needs to know about these versatile ranged weapons.

How to Use Ranged Attacks in Lords of the Fallen

To start, players must equip a ranged weapon and ammunition through the inventory screen. To utilize grenades and throwing weapons such as hatchets and javelins, the Throwing Hand should be equipped in the ranged weapon slot, with the throwing items placed in the ammo slots.

To fire or throw projectiles, players need to equip their ranged weapon and activate Ranged Stance by pressing and holding the Left Ctrl/LT/L2 button. Once in Ranged Stance, players can choose their desired ammunition and press LMB/RB/R1 for a quick shot or hold down RMB/RT/R2 for a more accurate shot.

In order to manage ammunition, players have a limited number of Ranged Slots instead of individual units in their inventory. The number of Ranged Slots determines how many times they can shoot or throw. Different types of ammunition have different costs, with stronger types consuming more Ranged Slots when used. Investing in Vitality can increase the number of Ranged Slots available.

The player's Ranged Slots are shown below the stamina bar. The yellow segments indicate the number of slots that will be used with the next shot. When there are no more Ranged Slots available, the player can no longer use ranged weapons.

Restoring at a Vestige replenishes all ammunition, eliminating the need for players to search or switch between two realms to obtain arrows and explosives when their Ranged Slots run out. Ammunition Pouches and Satchels can be utilized during exploration to regain ammunition without the need to rest.

The starting classes each possess their distinct themed ranged weapons. These weapons include:

Hallowed Knight — Grenades

Udirangr Warwolf — Bloody Hatchets

Partisan — Crossbow

Mournstead Infantry — Short Javelins

Blackfeather Ranger — Bow

Exiled Stalker — Lacerating Knife

Orian Preacher — Orian Preacher Catalyst/Radiant Flare

Pyric Cultist — Pyric Cultist Catalyst/Infernal Orb

Condemned - Hurling Stones

Casting spells necessitates Catalysts, and the particular type of spell determines the corresponding Catalyst that players must acquire (Umbral/Radiance/Inferno). Similar to regular ammunition, spells can be assigned to the quick action bar and employed by entering Ranged Stance.

Lords of the Fallen is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
