Maren Morris recently discussed her divorce from Ryan Hurd, revealing that she joked about "cutting all the trauma out of her hair" with her new short bob during an appearance on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show on December 13th. She had mentioned on her Instagram Story that she was in her "annual existential crisis" era, stating, "Cut all hair off. Adopt a dog. Get back on antidepressants."

"This year has been tough for many people, not just myself. I've seen a lot of the people near and dear to me go through breakups or divorces," she shared.

When Howard Stern mentioned that Morris herself "went through a divorce this year," the singer responded, "It's still happening... I hope this whole thing can come to an end soon."

Morris stated that she is not currently considering dating and is focusing on her writing instead. She mentioned, "I don't have the emotional capacity for that right now. But I'm pouring my feelings into my music, which is like my way of dating through song."

Reports from We Magazine revealed that Morris filed for divorce on October 2, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple has a prenuptial agreement in place.

Later that month, a source exclusively revealed to Us that Hurd was caught off guard by the split and Morris' decision seemed sudden. The two had initially met in 2013 at a writing session for Tim McGraw's song "Last Turn Home" and later became friends. They eventually began dating two years later, and Hurd documented their love story in his 2017 song "Love in a Bar."

"We met as creative collaborators six years ago when we were paired together to write a song," Morris exclusively told Us in 2019. "From there, our love for music grew and became intertwined with our love for each other. And now, as artists, we have gone beyond just being songwriters."

Hurd proposed to Morris in 2017, and they got married one year later.

During an interview with Us in 2019, she mentioned that they do a great job of staying in touch through frequent FaceTime calls. With the help of their shared manager, their schedules now coordinate well, which has been especially helpful since getting married. Maintaining a good balance is now a priority for them, and they announced the expansion of their family later that year with the birth of their son, Hayes, in March 2020.

Prior to the birth of our child, a friend reminded me of the importance of being kind to each other above all else," Hurd revealed to Us in August 2020. "I found that to be really wise advice because there are countless moments where you feel like you have nothing left. But we're all making an effort, and I believe that the kinder you are to your partner, the easier it becomes."

Before their separation, Morris and Hurd displayed their chemistry at award shows and on social media. Hurd also showed support for Morris when she announced her decision to take a break from country music. (Morris has gained attention for her vocal support of the LGBTQ+ community.)

"Instead of being merely tolerated, she deserves to be celebrated," he wrote on Instagram on September 20, alongside the cover image of Morris' EP The Bridge. "I love seeing people not just loving these two songs, but needing them. I knew they would resonate."

He went on to say, "Most people would just stay quiet and collect their paycheck because the backlash is real and it's tough. I'm fed up with watching my wife constantly attacked by the internet. I'm tired of every commentator having some ignorant opinion about her words. It's the same story every time. Why is anyone surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic? I'm tired of seeing people being rewarded for it."
