Mama June reveals heartbreaking update on daughter Anna Cardwell's stage IV cancer battle, hinting that Anna's future may be uncertain within five years

Mama June Shannon revealed that her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s stage IV cancer is terminal.

Shannon, 43, mentioned to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, July 12 that her daughter Cardwell, 28, is not expected to enter remission. They have all come to accept this reality, so Shannon prefers to take things one day at a time as the future is uncertain.

Despite the diagnosis, Cardwell is coping fairly well, according to Shannon. She can still manage her daily tasks such as going to the grocery store, driving herself, and taking care of the children's transportation needs.

Shannon, for her part, said Cardwell’s terminal diagnosis has been an “emotional rollercoaster” for her as a mother.

"It's always on my mind mentally," said the star of Mama June: From Not to Hot. (Shannon is also the mother to Jessica, 26, Lauryn, 23, and Alana, 17.)

On March 30, news broke that Cardwell had been diagnosed with stage IV adrenal carcinoma in January after experiencing severe stomach aches. "This is what I mean when I say you never truly know what somebody is going through at home, no matter how famous they are," Alana wrote on her Instagram Story at the time. "I may be very famous, but normal things happen to me and my family, and you all need to realize that ASAP."

Following four rounds of chemotherapy, Cardwell now faces the decision of either participating in clinical trials or opting for immune therapy, as highlighted by Shannon. Nevertheless, Cardwell is uncertain about proceeding with additional treatment.

Shannon expressed disbelief at the possibility of her not being present in the next five years, but she remains hopeful that she can overcome her illness and live for another 10 or 20 years. Shannon and her husband, Justin Stroud, informed We magazine in May that Anna's 10-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn, has become more dependent on her mother due to her ongoing fight against cancer. Meanwhile, Anna's youngest daughter, Kylee, who is seven years old, is still too young to fully grasp the situation. It's worth mentioning that Anna shares her two children with her ex-husband, Michael Cardwell.

Shannon noted that their family lacked support from relatives during this difficult time. She mentioned that only a few people, including herself, Justin, Pumpkin (Lauryn), Alana, her boyfriend Eldridge Toney, and Jessica, were present for Anna. No one else accompanied her to treatment or visited her at home.

Cardwell has been periodically updating fans about her cancer journey through social media. She shared an Instagram selfie with Toney on May 10, captioning it, "Heading into my third round of chemo. Yesterday was a pretty good day, although I did experience some discomfort. The food at Cracker Barrel was good going down but not coming up. Overall, the treatments are progressing well, and we have positive news."

In May 23, Anna joyfully commemorated Kaitlyn's completion of elementary school on Facebook. She shared photos and videos of the ceremony, captioning them, "Feeling immense pride as a mother at this moment. It's hard to believe that I'll soon have a middle schooler and a second grader. Excuse me while I take a moment to shed some tears. My daughters have achieved so much, and I couldn't be prouder."
