Anna Cardwell Passes Away at 29 After Battling Cancer: Devastating Loss for Mama June Shannon

Anna Cardwell, the oldest daughter of Mama June Shannon, has passed away at the age of 29 after battling cancer. Shannon, 44, announced the news on Instagram on Sunday, December 10, expressing her heartbreak and gratitude for the support. She shared that Anna passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, after fighting for 10 months. Updates on the situation were promised and continued prayers and thoughts for the family were requested during this challenging time.

In March 2023, it was revealed that Cardwell, known for her appearance on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, had been diagnosed with stage IV adrenal carcinoma the previous January after experiencing severe stomach aches. She began chemotherapy in February. Cardwell's younger sister, Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, shared her reaction to the news, emphasizing that despite their fame, they still face normal challenges like everyone else.

In May, Shannon provided a update on her daughter’s health struggle, saying, “This round of chemo has been quite different. She’s been sleeping more. It was a tough round.”

Shannon also shared that there were days when she struggled to cope with Cardwell’s diagnosis, saying, “I can only imagine how she feels having to live with it day in and day out, if I’m feeling this way as her mom.”

Two months later, Shannon confirmed that her eldest daughter’s cancer was terminal. “She’s not gonna go into remission,” Shannon told Entertainment Tonight. “We’ve all accepted that, so I just tell people one day at a time ‘cause you never know.”

Shannon observed that Cardwell had completed four rounds of chemotherapy and was contemplating participating in clinical trials and immune therapy, although she was uncertain about pursuing additional treatment. "It's unbelievable to think that she might not be here in five years, but I'm optimistic that she can persevere and survive for 10, 20 years," Shannon said.

Following her separation from Michael Cardwell in 2017, Cardwell is survived by her daughters Kaitlyn, 11, and Kylee, 8, whom she had with her ex-husband. She had been in a relationship with boyfriend Eldridge Toney since 2019, and the biological father of Kaitlyn was never publicly identified.

Shannon, also known as Chickadee, shares a daughter with her ex David Dunn. She is also the mother of Jessica, 27, and Lauryn, 23, with her ex Michael Anthony Ford, and Alana with her ex Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson.
