Mama June Shannon is embarking on the next phase of her weight loss journey, which involves receiving injections. In a recent Instagram post on Tuesday, April 16, Shannon, 44, shared that she underwent gastric sleeve surgery back in May 2015. At that time, she weighed 550 pounds. After the surgery, Shannon managed to lose weight on her own, dropping from 550 pounds to 311 pounds. Within six weeks post-surgery, she further slimmed down to 195 pounds.

Shannon mentioned that she managed to keep the weight off initially, staying around 130 to 150 pounds. She felt super skinny and not used to it. However, over the past year and a half, she noticed that she has gained weight.

Being one of the main caregivers for her daughter Anna Cardwell took a toll on Shannon's body. Unfortunately, Anna passed away in December 2023 at the age of 29 after battling stage IV adrenal cancer.

"I had packed on, like, about 120, 130 pounds with the stress of everything going on, eating out, not eating right, just all kinds of stuff," she shared. Despite trying to cut back on eating out and reducing her food intake, Shannon found that nothing was actually helping.

After observing people on social media using drugs like Mounjaro, Shannon decided to pursue the semaglutide path. "I chose to start semaglutide a few months ago under the guidance of my primary doctor," she explained, advising others to consult their physicians before considering injections themselves.

Shannon shared that she will start with ten units of semaglutide for the next four weeks, and then gradually increase the dosage.

During the video, Shannon stood up to showcase her progress and assured her followers that she will provide weekly updates. She expressed, "We are in this journey together."

Shannon ended the day by recording her husband, Justin Stroud, administering her first injection.

"Join me on this journey that many of you may also be on. Let's support each other through it. Share your experiences, both the good and the bad," she wrote in her post. I will be providing weekly updates on how things are progressing, as I know that I am not alone in facing challenges after undergoing bariatric surgery.
