Boba Fett may be one of the most unexpectedly developed characters in recent Star Wars history. Initially portrayed as a silent bounty hunter in the original trilogy, he has transformed into the adoptive father of an entire Tatooine city in The Book of Boba Fett on Disney Plus. Given this growth, it's no surprise that actor Temuera Morrison desires to continue playing the role for as long as possible.
Morrison first portrayed the bounty hunter Jango Fett and the entire clone army derived from Jango's genetic material in Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Therefore, when the time came to reintroduce the beloved Boba Fett in The Mandalorian season 2, it made perfect sense for Morrison to assume the role. His performance resonated with both critics and fans, which ultimately led to his own series. However, with the character's future now uncertain, fans are left wondering what lies ahead. Fortunately, if Morrison has his way, there is more to come.
During a recent appearance at the London Film and Comic Con, Morrison discussed his future plans, mentioning his intention to stop by Los Angeles before returning to New Zealand. He expressed curiosity about the current happenings in the Star Wars galaxy, particularly regarding Boba Fett. When asked about the possibility of a second season for The Book of Boba Fett, Morrison expressed optimism, stating his desire to stay engaged and ensure he isn't sidelined.
Morrison is wholeheartedly committed to reprising his role as Boba Fett and keeping the character alive. However, it appears that another fan-favorite, Timothy Olyphant, may also make a comeback. Olyphant, who is currently revisiting his iconic character, U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, in Justified: City Primeval, recently discussed his previous experience in the Star Wars universe with Rolling Stone. It seems that he would be open to returning as well, stating, "I've enjoyed that," referring to the role and his tendency to be typecast as a suave "cowboy" character. "I don't know if it's a cash grab or I'm just getting lazy, but I'm OK playing the greatest hits right now."
In The Mandalorian, Olyphant made his debut as Cobb Vanth, an established character in the Star Wars universe and a local sheriff. He stumbled upon Boba Fett's armor and used it to protect his small town on the outer edges of Tatooine. Eventually, Boba reclaimed his armor, but this didn't deter Cobb from continuing to serve as the guardian of his settlement. Unfortunately, a confrontation with notorious bounty hunter Cad Bane left Cobb gravely injured and on the brink of death, confined to a bacta tank. This left fans questioning whether he would ever return. However, it seems that Olyphant would likely be open to the idea.
Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors and writers' strike, numerous projects have been put on hold for a justifiable reason. Although it would be wonderful to witness the return of Boba Fett and Cobb Vanth in the near future, it is crucial that the individuals responsible for breathing life into these characters receive fair compensation. The duration of the strike remains uncertain, but it is hopeful that it will conclude with the actors and writers having their demands met. Furthermore, the extended wait will only enhance the gratification of reconnecting with these beloved characters. Catch the Star Wars saga on Disney Plus.
