Madonna continues counting blessings after being hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection in June.
Just four months ago, I was hospitalized and unconscious. There were doubts about my survival. Madonna, 65, shared this with her fans during her concert in Antwerp, Belgium on October 22. This European show was a part of her Celebration tour, which had to be postponed for three months while she recovered from a health scare in June. At the Sportpaleis arena, Madonna expressed her gratitude for being able to return and perform for her fans. She described her presence as a miraculous event and made reference to her late mother, Madonna Louise Ciccone, who passed away in 1963 from breast cancer.
"My mother, may she rest in peace. I believe she is watching over me. She once told me, 'My child, it is not your time to depart,'" shared the renowned music icon. She also revealed that during her terrifying experience, she had a profound realization about her mother's own struggles half a century ago. "In that moment, I felt a deep understanding and compassion for my mother, not in regards to the fear of death, but rather the profound sense of loneliness she must have felt lying in the hospital, aware of her impending demise, while I have been granted another chance."
"I am incredibly grateful for this second lease on life," Madonna continued. "Although I must admit, I don't feel well at the moment, I cannot complain because I am alive. I thank God for my children and all of you who have shown me love and support. Your kindness means the world to me."
The music world was sent into a state of concern on June 28, when Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, shared news about her health scare. According to his message, on June 24, Madonna contracted a serious bacterial infection that resulted in her being admitted to the ICU for several days. Although her health was said to be improving, she continued to receive medical care.
