Madonna's Kids Advise Her to Take it Easy After Battling Bacterial Infection

Madonna's children urge her to prioritize her health and avoid rushing her recovery after battling a severe bacterial infection that led to hospitalization in June

Madonna's family is supporting her while she recovers from her recent hospital stay. According to an exclusive source in the latest issue of We, Madonna's children were concerned about her pushing herself too soon, but they understand her love for music and her determination to go on tour. They have faith that she is listening to her body and will take it easy if necessary.

Madonna, who is currently 65 years old, is a mother to six children. She has a daughter named Lourdes Leon, who is 27 years old, from a past relationship with Carlos Leon. Madonna also has a 23-year-old son named Rocco Ritchie, whom she shares with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie. In addition, she has four adopted children: David Banda, who is 18 years old, Mercy James, who is 17 years old, and twins Stella and Estere, both of whom are 10 years old.

Earlier this year, Madonna faced a serious bacterial infection that landed her in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for multiple days. Her longtime manager, Guy Oseary, reassured her fans in June that she was getting better and expected to fully recover. Unfortunately, due to her health condition, she had to cancel her upcoming tour dates.

"Currently, all commitments, including the tour, will be put on hold," Oseary stated on Instagram. "We will provide further updates in the near future, including a revised tour start date and rescheduled shows."

Shortly after, Madonna was discharged from the hospital. In early July, she spoke out about her health scare, acknowledging the encouragement from her children and fans to prioritize her recovery and regain strength."

In this image, Madonna can be seen sitting alongside her biological and adopted children at Mkoko Primary School, which is one of the schools constructed through the collaboration of Madonna's organization Raising Malawi and the US organization BuildOn. The photograph was taken during Madonna's visit to the region of Kasungu, central Malawi on April 2, 2013.

"Expressing my gratitude for the positive energy, prayers, and words of healing and encouragement. Your love has been felt. I am now on the path to recovery and deeply appreciative of the abundant blessings in my life," she wrote on Instagram. "Upon waking up in the hospital, my initial thought was of my children, followed closely by my determination to not let down those who had purchased tickets for my tour." Continuing to prioritize her well-being, Madonna lauded her children for their support during her challenging time.

"Love and support from family and friends are the ultimate remedy. After spending one month in the hospital, I now have the opportunity to reflect," she shared along with a collection of Instagram photos featuring Lourdes and her son David in July. "As a mother, it can be easy to become absorbed in meeting the needs of your children and the seemingly never-ending giving. But when things got tough, my children truly came through for me. I witnessed a side of them that I had never seen before, and it made all the difference."

Two months later, Madonna made her return to the stage in London for the opening of her Celebration concert tour. During her performance, the superstar revealed that both she and her children had doubted her ability to recover during her hospitalization period.

"I don't remember five days of my life — or my near-death experience. However, I believe that I was being protected by angels," she revealed to the audience during the month of October. "If you're curious about how I managed to survive, here's my secret: I had to be strong for my children. I had to fight through it for their sake."
