Lukas Gage clarified that he is not dating Archie Madekwe after breaking up with Chris Appleton. Despite jokingly calling Madekwe his husband, Gage emphasized that they are just friends. Gage, 28, stated to TMZ on Saturday, March 9, "No, we’re not married. We are friends. Archie’s the best."
Gage continued to praise Madekwe, whom he considers a friend. “I’ll take it as a compliment [that people think we are dating],” he added. “Archie is a hottie. He’s a good one.”
Earlier this month, Gage sparked dating speculation after he joked around about his bond with Madekwe. “Yeah, this is my new husband,” the actor told TMZ while walking with Madekwe into an event at Bar Marmont in Hollywood, California.
In November 2023, it was confirmed that Appleton, 40, had filed for divorce from Gage after only six months of marriage. The reason cited for the split was irreconcilable differences. According to a source, Appleton and Gage did not anticipate the end of their marriage.
The insider mentioned that the split was not amicable and was not the outcome they had hoped for. It will take time for both parties to heal and move forward with their lives.
According to another source, Appleton and Gage's split wasn't caused by a single problem. Instead, it was a combination of different factors that led to their decision.
Appleton and Gage announced their separation shortly after their wedding was aired on an episode of Hulu's The Kardashians. In the show, Kim Kardashian, who is a client and good friend of Appleton, arranged for the couple to get married in Las Vegas at a chapel.
Kardashian, who is 43 years old, advised Appleton and Gage during the show to sign a prenup. (It was later revealed that a postnuptial agreement was signed after Appleton and Gage got married in April 2023.)
Prior to their split, Gage had expressed his desire to keep his romantic life private.
He shared with The New York Times in March 2023 that he is generally open about his life, but he struggles with the idea of everyone knowing everything and nothing being kept private. He mentioned that he is still figuring out where to draw the line.
The White Lotus actor remembered feeling pushed to publicly announce his sexual orientation. While he supports representation and amplifying marginalized voices, he emphasized the importance of making decisions on his terms. He expressed his desire to come out when he feels comfortable and ready.
Gage told TMZ on Saturday that he has decided to take a break from dating apps. He mentioned that he is currently focused on himself and finding his own path. Gage expressed that he is taking this time to love and date himself.
