Lucasfilm Games Reportedly Conceals an Exciting Star Wars Game

Lucasfilm Games has made a triumphant return in 2021, marking a significant change in the world of Star Wars video games. With EA's exclusivity contract ending in 2023, the doors have opened for more studios and publishers to create Star Wars games. While EA will continue to produce games, such as Respawn's Star Wars Jedi franchise, fans can expect a wider range of experiences in the years to come. Ubisoft is currently developing an open-world Star Wars game, Quantic Dream is working on a choice-based Star Wars Eclipse, and Skydance New Media is also developing a title.

The future of Star Wars games is not only promising but also nostalgic. The upcoming KOTOR Remake under the Embracer Group umbrella is evidence of the industry's interest in revisiting beloved classics. However, there are other potential projects in the works. It would be exciting if Skydance New Media were to resurrect Visceral's Star Wars game, and there is also room for the long-awaited Star Wars 1313 to finally see the light of day. Although these titles may not be exactly the same as they would have been in the mid-2010s, the possibilities are endless, and Star Wars 1313 could be the ace up Lucasfilm's sleeve.

Lucasfilm Games Has the Chance to Do Something Great with Star Wars 1313

Star Wars 1313 was originally revealed at E3 2013 with Boba Fett as the protagonist, delving into the depths of Coruscant's undercity in a game that was to have received significant input from George Lucas. While many assumed the project was canceled, it has only been officially placed "on hold" by Lucasfilm since the company ceased all internal development at LucasArts after being acquired by Disney. Despite this, gameplay footage and concept art have surfaced online, and the franchise has referenced the title on occasion, most notably in the animated series Clone Wars. While it was suggested that an external developer could continue development of the game, no updates have been made public. However, with the resurgence of Lucasfilm Games and the potential for new partnerships, it is possible that Star Wars 1313 could be revisited in some form.

Despite the iterative nature of game development, the underlying themes of an initial idea can still shine through even if the idea itself doesn't come to fruition. With the Mandalorian's increased popularity following the Disney Plus show, it would make sense for a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter game to be created, focused on gameplay centered around bounty hunting rather than Jedi abilities. This would essentially be the equivalent of Star Wars 1313, a game that Lucasfilm Games is likely aware of. While rumors of a new Mandalorian Star Wars game have been circulating for the past year or two, it's uncertain if the game will ever come to fruition. If it does, though, it will carry the legacy of Star Wars 1313. Unfortunately, Star Wars 1313 is officially on hold.
