Taylor Rue and JP Pierce discovered a strong connection in the Love Is Blind pods, but unfortunately, their relationship didn't carry over into the real world.
"I first noticed it during the reveal, but I didn't dwell on it too much because it was our first time seeing each other," 26-year-old Taylor revealed exclusively to We before the season 5 premiere. "Both of us were nervous, so I didn't delve deeper into it until we were in Mexico."
Taylor and the firefighter, who is 32 years old, found love during the Netflix experiment in Houston. They became engaged without seeing each other first. After "reveal day," Taylor felt that their constant display of affection seemed a bit off.
"I remember we kept kissing, kissing, and kissing, and I thought, 'We need to sit down and talk,'" she shared with Us. "It was almost like we didn't have anything to talk about. I had never been in an awkward situation like that during a regular date before, so I was completely thrown off. I didn't know how to handle it, and that's what made me feel a little strange."
Taylor attempted to suppress her nervousness as the couple embarked on their post-engagement getaway to Mexico. Unfortunately, their communication deteriorated when Taylor accused him of being unwilling to express his emotions. JP, on the other hand, expressed his dissatisfaction with Taylor appearing with heavy makeup and false eyelashes during their encounter. This revelation prompted Taylor to find a different hotel room for the night.
“I felt really hurt and confused,” she revealed, referring to JP's criticism of her physical appearance. “I thought to myself, ‘There's no way our relationship is falling apart simply because of how I look.’ We had developed such a strong bond between us, and I believed he was my future husband. We were engaged, after all.”

She continued: “I was just confused, honestly, a little bit hurt, but more confused than anything.”
When Taylor woke up the following morning, she conveyed to JP that she had lost interest in living with him or continuing their engagement.
"I didn't make the decision to end it that night. I took some time and it wasn't solely because of the make-up comment. Yes, it was hurtful, but I wouldn't end a relationship just because of someone's opinion," Taylor explained to Us. "I left because the person I fell in love with, the version of JP, was no longer present and that frightened me. I was supposed to move in with this person and I felt like I didn't even know him in Mexico. So, I reflected deeply because a part of me wanted to stay, but another part of me was ready to go home."
Reflecting on her past, Taylor unequivocally affirms that she has no regrets about ending her engagement on reality TV.
According to Taylor, the prospect of cohabitation with a partner was a significant milestone in her relationships, and since she and her ex were not completely invested, she opted out. She firmly believes that her decision was the correct one, as staying together under those circumstances would likely have resulted in a strained dynamic with animosity between them.

JP contacted Taylor immediately after the breakup, however, she informed Us that she was not prepared to engage in a conversation with him. Taylor stated that she required some time to heal and only recently, a few months ago, she reached out to him. She described their conversation as positive, but not in-depth, and she still believes that they need to have a more profound discussion.
