Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who played characters in The Devil Wears Prada, had a rocky start on screen in the 2006 film, but off camera, their bond was unmistakable. During their recent reunion for the "Actors on Actors" series on Wednesday, December 6th, Blunt, who portrayed lead assistant Emily, asked Hathaway, 41, about their first meeting. "Did we meet before the table read? How did we meet?"
Hathaway, who portrayed junior assistant Andrea “Andy,” was playfully surprised by Blunt’s lack of recollection. “It’s funny because I remember every single moment of our first encounter,” Hathaway said with a chuckle. “I’m much more enamored with you than you are with me. But that’s okay. It’s all good.”
Reflecting on the past, Hathaway remembered being cast as Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) clumsy new assistant before Blunt, 40, came on board. “I still recall walking into the room and seeing you for the first time. Instantly, I thought to myself, ‘What a movie star!’” Hathaway said. “You were radiating stardom.”
The pair then went for coffee before they officially started working side by side. “I was so inexperienced coming into that situation. And you were like the warmest embrace,” Blunt remembered of working with Hathaway. “Even though you were a huge movie star at that time, you treated me like a complete equal. You are one of the people I’ve known longest. We’ve known each other for 18 years.”

Blunt's revelation left Hathaway stunned, "What? Our relationship is that old?" Blunt added, "That's considered drinking age in England." Hathaway quipped, "Well, we must be quite drunk in England right now."
During the filming of The Devil Wears Prada, despite their characters being frenemies, Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway got along famously. Reflecting on their experience, Blunt described it as a joyous and unforgettable time. She admitted that none of them anticipated the movie's massive impact and how frequently it would be quoted to her. Blunt believes that it was a pivotal moment in her career.
Hathaway expressed her gratitude to Blunt for her joyful presence during filming. She appreciated Blunt's personality and British flair, noting that the more nervous Blunt became, the funnier she became. She compared Blunt's effect to a constant stream of joy and was reminded of the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. The interview ended with the two reflecting on some of the film's memorable lines, including Emily's famous remark: "Oh, I’m sorry. Do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?"

Blunt erupted into laughter after reading Hathaway's quote, admitting, “I would laugh all the time because I was so horrible to you most of the time in this movie. And it was your little face — this beautiful, slightly baffled face.”
Despite their strong connection, Hathaway has insisted that a sequel is not in the works. “There’s not going to be a sequel,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October 2022. “It’s not gonna happen. It’s just like, we can’t do it. It’s not gonna happen. It exists. There are other films. There will be other films. We can just watch that one [The Devil Wears Prada] again.”
