King Charles III's first overseas engagement since his cancer treatment will be in France. Buckingham Palace announced on Friday, May 17, that Charles, 75, and Queen Camilla will be traveling with other royal family members in June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
After exploring monuments in Portsmouth, England, the couple will travel to Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy, France. On Thursday, June 6, Charles and Camilla are scheduled to participate in The Ministry of Defense and the Royal British Legion’s commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial. (The King is the patron of the Royal British Legion.)
Accompanying Charles and Camilla in Normandy will be his eldest son, Prince William, and the King's sister, Princess Anne, for further engagements.
Charles took a break to receive cancer treatment but is now back to his public duties in April. The palace revealed in February that Charles was diagnosed with cancer, although the specific type was not disclosed.
In a statement, Charles expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and well wishes he received. He acknowledged the comfort and encouragement that comes from the kind thoughts of others, especially those who have also been impacted by cancer.
Charles added, "I am also happy to hear that sharing my diagnosis has contributed to raising awareness and highlighting the important work of organizations that support cancer patients and their families in the U.K. and beyond. I have always respected their hard work and commitment, and now even more so after going through it myself."

As Charles took a break from his public-facing duties, William, 41, Camilla and brother Prince Edward carried on in his place.
In April, Charles received good news from his doctors about his health.
Buckingham Palace shared in a statement that His Majesty's medical team is pleased with the progress he has made and is optimistic about his ongoing recovery. They will make adjustments to his upcoming events as needed to ensure that his recovery is not compromised. The pace of his schedule will be carefully managed in coordination with his medical team as he continues to recover.
Princess Kate Middleton, William's wife, is also facing cancer. She revealed in March that she was diagnosed with a type of cancer two months earlier. The 42-year-old Princess has temporarily stepped back from her royal responsibilities to focus on chemotherapy treatment.
