Prince William has been appointed to lead Prince Harry's former military unit, as ordered by King Charles III. Buckingham Palace announced on Friday, August 11th, that the new military appointments for working Members of the Royal Family were made in recognition of the strong bond between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family during King Charles III's reign.

William, aged 41, is now able to include several prestigious titles in his ever-expanding list of honors as the next in line for the throne. These titles include Colonel-in-Chief for The Army Air Corps, The Mercian Regiment, and Royal Honorary Air Commodore for R.A.F. Valley. With his previous military experience, particularly his service as a RAF Search and Rescue Pilot from 2010 to 2013, William has established himself as a respected veteran in the British military. Buckingham Palace acknowledged his significant contributions to the Royal Air Force.

William has taken on a new role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, a position previously held by his father. This role now puts him in charge of his estranged brother's former army unit. Harry, 38, served in the British military and completed multiple tours of Afghanistan. During his time in the military, he was a Forward Air Controller and later became an Apache Pilot in the army.

In addition to William's new titles, his wife, Princess Kate, also received new military designations. She is now the Commodore-in-Chief of the Fleet Air Arm, Colonel-in-Chief of the 1st Queen's Dragoon Guards, and the Royal Honorary Air Commodore of R.A.F. Coningsby. Other members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne, have also been granted updated military titles in the recent announcement made by Charles.

Harry had his three honorary military titles taken away from him after he and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2020. These titles were Captain General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant of Royal Air Force Honington, and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving, Royal Naval Command. Although he was permitted to wear his military uniform for his late grandmother's vigil in September 2022, he was not allowed to do so for the queen's state funeral days later.

Harry and his family have been in constant conflict for several years. The tension has only escalated since Harry and his wife Meghan decided to relocate to California and openly discuss the mistreatment they claim to have endured from The Firm. Despite their allegations, including accusations of racism and a lack of proper mental health support, royal expert Christopher Andersen revealed last month that these claims have actually brought Prince Charles and Prince William closer together.

Andersen explained that they have been forced to present a united front in response to the attacks from their own family. This has been a difficult experience for them, but it has ultimately brought them closer together. Additionally, a source revealed that Meghan and Harry have also chosen to stand united in the face of the ongoing drama, believing that it is them against the world.
