Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann have reconciled and ended their divorce proceedings after two months of separation.
Biermann’s lawyer, Marlys Bergstrom, has informed Us that the athlete and Zolciak-Biermann have decided to withdraw their divorce filing and are working on reconciling their relationship.
According to court documents obtained by Us in May, both Biermann and Zolciak-Biermann filed for divorce. They are parents to four children: Kroy "KJ" Jr. (age 11), Kash (age 10), and twins Kaia and Kane (age 9). The official date of separation mentioned in the paperwork was April 30. Biermann stated in the documents that their marriage was beyond repair.
The former athlete, who became the adoptive parent of Zolciak-Biermann's daughters when he married her in 2011, also sought "temporary and permanent sole legal and physical custody" of their four children. Despite their separation, they were still residing together in their Alpharetta, Georgia, residence. Biermann requested sole ownership of the property and asked for a restraining order to prevent Zolciak-Biermann from entering the house. He also requested child support.
In an attempt to ensure the safety of her children, the reality star has submitted a request to the court for her ex-partner to undergo a drug test. In the legal documentation dated May 16, provided to Us, the individual originally from Florida stated that they have personally witnessed the respondent smoking marijuana. This has raised significant concerns regarding the well-being and safety of their minor children when they are in the care of the respondent. Given the circumstances, there is a genuine fear that the children may be exposed to the respondent's drug usage.
The custody battle between the couple became more chaotic when Biermann requested a psychological evaluation for Zolciak-Biermann and accused her of having a gambling problem. Zolciak-Biermann responded through her lawyer, calling Biermann's allegations "harmful and incredibly misleading" lies.
The situation worsened as Biermann claimed that Zolciak-Biermann's friend tried to kidnap their son. He threatened to file kidnapping charges after Zolciak-Biermann's friend, Elise Humphries, took their son to a rodeo. Zolciak-Biermann denied the kidnapping claims in a 911 call, and Humphries also refuted Biermann's accusations.
“There was no kidnapping. I accompanied KJ, one of [my daughter] Alanna's closest friends, to the Blairsville annual rodeo, which he was extremely excited about," Humphries stated in a lengthy post on her Instagram Story in June or July. "Kim, his mother, who is both an incredible mom and friend, gave me permission and brought him to meet me and his two best friends, one of whom is my daughter."
The Biermanns' marriage and expanding family were depicted on the family's Bravo spinoff, Don't Be Tardy, for eight seasons from 2012 to 2020. While their separation came as a surprise to fans, it also shocked their close friends.
In May, a source revealed that Kim's friends were astounded by the revelation of her and Kroy's marital problems, leading to their decision to pursue a divorce. Kim had managed to keep these issues hidden, even from her closest circle of friends.
Months prior to the divorce filing, it was confirmed that the Biermanns' residence in Alpharetta, known for its foreclosure, was due to the couple's default on mortgage payments in August 2022. Although an auction had been scheduled for early 2023, it was ultimately canceled. Additionally, following news of the split, TMZ reported that the former Don't Be Tardy stars were facing a back tax debt of $1.1 million.
According to an insider, their relationship has been greatly affected by the financial burdens. The combination of tax debt and other financial pressures has made things challenging for them. In fact, the tax debt proved to be the final breaking point in their marriage.
