Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha showed their love on Oscars night by going on a special date to the Vanity Fair party after the ceremony.

The couple, aged 47 and 42 respectively, were seen holding hands as they arrived at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 10.

Washington looked stunning in a black, strapless Giambattista Valli couture gown. The dress had delicate beaded embroidery and a tulle overskirt. She accessorized with a diamond choker and matching earrings. Asomugha looked dapper in a black tuxedo.

Sunday marked a rare public outing for Washington and Asomugha. The couple usually keeps their relationship out of the spotlight.

In 2016, she explained during a South by Southwest panel that if she doesn't discuss her personal life, it simply means she doesn't discuss it. This includes not sharing when she got married and not addressing any rumors about her marriage, as she prefers to keep her personal life private.

Washington first met Asomugha when he went to see her perform in the play Race in 2009. They got married in secret four years later in June 2013, just a few months before announcing that they were expecting their first child together. (Asomugha also has an older daughter from a previous relationship.)

Washington welcomed her daughter Isabelle in 2014, followed by their son Caleb in 2016.

In an interview with Marie Claire in October 2020, the actress expressed, “[Motherhood taught me] everything. My children are my teachers. I’m in a constant state of learning and challenging myself to make room for their perfection and beauty.”

They are both very protective of their children. Kerry Washington explained in a May 2021 interview with InStyle that they want to keep their kids safe and away from scary situations. She emphasized that they don't want to hide their children like Rapunzel in a castle, but rather shield them from being exploited, especially in today's social media-driven world.
