Katy Perry shared her thoughts on who should take over as a judge on American Idol after her departure.
During an interview with E! News on Monday, April 15, Perry, 39, praised Jelly Roll for his crazy antics on the show. She was so impressed by him that she joked about supporting him for president or even going back to church if he was her pastor. Perry even mentioned that Jelly Roll could sell her anything.
Perry expressed her admiration for the artist who recently appeared on an episode of Idol. She mentioned, "I love him. Having any of these guys, along with Jelly, on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!"
Perry emphasized that honesty is the most important quality for a good judge. She stated, "I want a truth teller. I want someone who is not afraid to speak the truth in a kind way."
In February, Perry revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she was leaving the singing competition after a seven-season run.

"I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol," Katy Perry shared. "I mean, I love Idol so much. It's connected me with, like, the heart of America. But I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse — that pulse to my own beat," she explained. "You know what I'm saying?"
Perry revealed to host Jimmy Kimmel that her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were unaware of her plans. She hinted, "Well, they’ll find out tonight. They know that I have some things planned for this year."
Despite bidding farewell to the Idol world, Perry has exciting projects lined up for her career. She shared, "Well, you know, actually this fall in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock and Rio." Perry expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "It’s really exciting. It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially for my Brazilian fans."
Perry has definitely had some fun during her time on Idol. In a recent episode on Monday, she managed to hilariously cover up a wardrobe malfunction when her top broke while she was judging a contestant.

"She said she needed her top to stay on," as production crew members rushed to fix the back of her shirt. She warned, "If it’s not fixed, this show is gonna get more than it wanted."
Perry then joked to the contestant, “That song broke my top off,” adding, “It’s a family show.”
American Idol season 22 airs on ABC Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
