Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse take on an eerie love story in the trailer for Lisa Frankenstein. Director Zelda Williams' debut feature film brings a twist to Mary Shelley's classic tale. Newton portrays a misunderstood high school girl who desperately needs a prom date in 19when she accidentally revives a Victorian corpse. What initially seems like a horrifying mistake turns into a dream come true, as she now has the opportunity to shape her ideal companion.
The trailer emphasizes the horror comedy aspect of the story, showing Lisa (Newton) hilariously attempting to bring her high school crush back to life. Utilizing a broken tanning bed, Lisa transforms her undead partner into the man of her dreams. Together, they embark on a quest for love and happiness beyond the grave, encountering various severed body parts along the way.
Newton and Sprouse are the ideal choice for this throwback horror comedy brand that re-envisions the classic Frankenstein tale. Newton, known for her role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, previously swapped bodies with killer Vince Vaughn in Freaky (2020), a darker and more gruesome adaptation of the Disney classic Freaky Friday. In Freaky, Newton showcased her versatility by portraying both a ruthless murderer and a resilient final girl, and it appears that she will bring that same duality to her character, Lisa Frankenstein, based on the trailer. As an outcast teenager and an unwitting mad scientist, Newton's character will embark on a journey to find her place in the world, accompanied by her unexpected romantic interest, played by Sprouse, who himself is no stranger to unconventional roles. Sprouse gained fame for his portrayal of Jughead throughout all seven seasons of the unconventional drama Riverdale.
