Justin Timberlake commemorated the debut of the latest Trolls film, accompanied by his former ‘NSync bandmates and his wife, Jessica Biel. At the Trolls Band Together premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 15, the 42-year-old Timberlake graced the red carpet alongside Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick. After collaborating on The Mickey Mouse Club during their childhood, Spears and Timberlake were romantically involved from 1999 to 2002. In her memoir, Spears disclosed instances of infidelity by both parties, including her own involvement with choreographer Wade Robson while she was in a relationship with Timberlake.
In her memoir, Spears discloses that Timberlake had convinced her to have an abortion before their separation as he was not prepared for fatherhood.
Justin was clearly unhappy about the pregnancy. He believed we were not prepared to bring a child into our lives and that we were too young. I know people may judge me, but I ultimately decided to not go through with the pregnancy. I'm not sure if it was the right choice. If it were solely up to me, I would not have done it. However, Justin was adamant that he did not want to become a father.
In an attempt to console her, Spears shares that Timberlake played his guitar while she sat on the bathroom floor, crying and grieving over the termination of her pregnancy. Following this difficult ordeal, Timberlake reportedly ended their relationship through a text message.
Spears expressed her dissatisfaction with Timberlake's conduct following their breakup, particularly in relation to his music video for the popular song "Cry Me a River," which seemed to suggest that she had been unfaithful.
"I don't believe Justin fully comprehended the impact of his actions on my reputation. Even now, I don't think he truly grasps it," she reflected. "Did I feel angered by him publicly revealing my sexual activity? No. In all honesty, I appreciated Justin's openness about that."
Timberlake has not yet responded to Spears' book, but he has previously apologized to his ex for potentially contributing to the negative public image of her following their breakup.
"I sincerely apologize for instances in my past where my behavior added to the issue, where I spoke without thinking, or when I failed to defend what was just," he expressed in a statement published on Instagram in February 2021 following the release of the New York Times documentary, Freeing Britney Spears. "The entertainment industry possesses significant flaws. It favors men, particularly those of Caucasian descent, granting them a privileged pathway to triumph. This system was intentionally crafted."
Timberlake expressed his continued "respect" for Spears, despite feeling like he let her down. He emphasized the importance of using his privileged position to speak out and vowed to not benefit from others being brought down again.
According to a source, Timberlake was taken aback by the prominence of his portrayal in Spears' book, which became a bestseller, selling over one million copies in its first week. The insider shared in October that Justin had expected Britney to discuss their relationship in more general terms, rather than revealing personal details. He was disappointed that she chose to go down this route many years after their separation.
Another source revealed that Timberlake genuinely feels regret for his troubled history with Spears.
"Justin deeply regrets the pain he caused Britney. He was young," disclosed the individual. "He believes Britney deserves to share her side of the story and hopes they can leave the past behind and move forward."
