Joy Behar is not interested in revisiting her well-known dismissal from The View.
On the episode of the talk show that aired on Tuesday, March 5, the panel was talking about Jason Kelce's heartfelt retirement from the Philadelphia Eagles. During the discussion, Whoopi Goldberg mentioned that she felt compelled to ask her cohosts if they had ever been in a situation where they were unsure about their future career paths.
Goldberg, who is 68 years old, mentioned that she was supposed to ask everyone if they have ever found themselves in a situation where they are wondering, "Now what?" because they had to move on from one thing to another. Behar, who is 81 years old, jokingly responded, "What do you mean you're supposed to ask us?"
Goldberg then explained that she leads the daily discussions on the show based on the topics that the show wants them to talk about. She also gestured towards producer Brian Teta in the audience, who smiled when the camera turned towards him.
Sunny Hostin attempted to steer the conversation back on track by mentioning Joy Behar's departure from The View in 2013. Whoopi Goldberg then turned to Behar and inquired if she could relate to Travis Kelce's situation after being fired at the age of 36.
Behar humorously replied, "I'm on my fifth act," prompting laughter from the audience.
Sara Haines came to Behar's defense, pointing out that Behar does more than just host the talk show. She mentioned Behar's recent essay on workplace harassment. Behar then shifted the conversation back to Kelce, mentioning that she doesn't necessarily feel sorry for him because of his age. However, Behar did find common ground with the athlete, understanding that he was emotional about leaving his teammates behind.
Behar explained that Kelce seemed more upset about leaving his friends than worrying about his future. She drew a parallel, stating that when she eventually leaves the show, it won't be because of concerns about her future, but because she will miss her friends. That's the essence of it.
Behar’s sentiment earned a sweet reaction from her costars, Haines got up and gave her a big hug.
“You can never leave us!” teased Alyssa Farrah Griffin.
Behar was a regular host on The View from 1997 to 2013. She decided to leave the show to explore other opportunities.
After a two-year break, Behar came back to The View for good. Later on, she disclosed that she had been let go by the network.
“I was glad to be fired,” she told Time in 2022. “I basically was sick of the show at that point for some reason, I don’t even remember why.”
