Why John Stamos Didn’t Like Being In Full House

Contrary to his Full House co-stars, Stamos didn't have to go through an audition process for the role of Uncle Jesse in the show. Being a recognized actor, with previous experience on General Hospital, he was selected to portray the cool and laid-back uncle to the Tanner kids. However, there were expectations regarding the type of character he would play in the family sitcom. Unfortunately for Stamos, Full House primarily focused on the kids, which meant that his role was mainly supportive in nature.

Stamos recently admitted that he considered leaving Full House after the initial script reading because he felt upstaged by Jodie Sweetin. He was so upset that he immediately called his agent to withdraw from the show. Despite his reluctance, he ultimately stayed on and even had Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen fired for their constant crying. It's hard to believe that Stamos felt this way back then, especially considering how well he interacted with the young cast.

Now, decades after Full House ended and three years after Fuller House concluded, it seems that Stamos has finally made peace with his time in the franchise. It's safe to say that both shows owe much of their success to his involvement. Additionally, Uncle Jesse wouldn't be as cherished if it weren't for Stamos' portrayal.
