Joao Palhinha's recent extension of his contract with Fulham, which ensures his commitment to Craven Cottage until 2028, does not include a release clause.
In the final moments of the transfer deadline, the Portugal international was on the verge of completing a €65m move to Bayern Munich.
The player's transfer to Munich fell apart at the eleventh hour as Fulham failed to secure a timely replacement. Furthermore, Fulham declined a £45m bid from West Ham for the 28-year-old in July.
Palhinha transferred to the west London club for a fee of £20m from Sporting Lisbon in July 2022. He signed a five-year contract and made 35 appearances in the Premier League, emerging as the player with the highest number of successful tackles. Under the guidance of Marco Silva, Fulham secured a 10th place finish in the previous season. Palhinha's impact was evident when he scored a crucial equalizer against Arsenal in August. Fulham may even consider extending his contract until 2029, with the option to add an additional year.
"I feel happy," Palhinha told FFCtv. "A lot of history happened these few weeks for me, you heard a lot of things about my future, but I'm just focused on my work at Fulham.

Joao Palhinha celebrates his late equaliser at Arsenal
From the moment I joined this club, I have been wholeheartedly committed, giving my unwavering dedication. I hold immense respect for the club and its supporters, who have been incredibly supportive of me and my family since day one.
I pledge to give my all in every endeavor, whether it be on the field, off the field, or within the confines of our dressing room alongside my teammates.
Fulham are now in an even stronger position
Statement from Fulham individual:"I hold a great deal of admiration for all individuals here in Fulham and I am fully prepared to commence anew, to exert my utmost efforts, and I am determined to accomplish remarkable feats."
Bayern Munich had a strong desire to acquire Palhinha. However, the deal fell through on the final day of the transfer window, coinciding with the German deadline of 5pm, which is significantly earlier compared to the 11pm deadline in this locality.
With high hopes, Palhinha had traveled to Bayern Munich, anticipating a realization of his long-awaited dream transfer. An agreement for €65m was on the verge of being reached, bearing in mind that this player was initially purchased for a mere £20m last summer.
Fulham seemed poised for a certain outcome, yet at the eleventh hour, they failed to secure a replacement and were unwilling to part ways without a suitable substitute.
Consequently, they regretfully informed him, "Apologies, but you'll have to return by flight." Despite flying back, he unfortunately missed the subsequent match against Manchester City the following day.

If Bayern Munich are going to try and sign him again in the future, Fulham are going to be in an even stronger position
Fulham fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the recent signing has committed to a lengthy contract without a release clause. Many speculated that the player's decision to sign a long-term deal was contingent on a potential move to Bayern, but reliable sources confirm that this is not the case. The new contract ensures the player's loyalty to Fulham without any contractual escape route.
If Munich attempts to sign him again, Fulham will hold an even stronger position, which is fantastic news for the Premier League. He stands out as one of the league's top defensive midfielders, if not midfielders overall.
