Joan Vassos, at 61 years old, is all set to pave her own path as the very first Golden Bachelorette. She was a contestant on the original show, The Golden Bachelor, and now she's taking on the role of the leading lady in this new spinoff series. Despite not knowing how things will turn out in the end, Joan is excited to embark on this journey.
Joan expressed to CNN in an interview published on Tuesday, May 14, that she is open to the possibility of engagement. She believes in the process as she has seen it work for many couples on The Bachelor. If it leads to engagement, she sees it as a positive outcome.
On the other hand, Joan mentioned that she is also comfortable with taking the time to get to know a potential partner better in the outside world before committing to an engagement. She views this approach as equally perfect.

"I probably won’t rush into a marriage right away — and not only because of what happened with Gerry and Theresa,” she explained. “I think it takes some time to really get to know somebody. Out in the wild, in the real world, you need to spend some time there.”
After Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist, 70, got engaged in the November 2023 finale of The Golden Bachelor, the duo tied the knot in a live wedding ceremony in January. The couple announced their split last month. On April 12, We exclusively broke the news that Turner had filed for divorce, citing an “irretrievable breakdown” of the marriage.
Joan, who left The Golden Bachelor show to support her daughter after she gave birth, was shocked by the unexpected breakup.

Joan shared, "I loved watching their journey. I saw them fall in love. I believed just like they did. They were like the perfect couple." She applauded their decision to jump into the process wholeheartedly, ready to find true love.
Joan also praised the couple for realizing that their relationship wasn't working anymore.
"They decided to end things, but it's not the end of the world," she said. "We should support their decision to follow their hearts and find what's right for them."
The Golden Bachelorette, a mother of four and grandmother of two, is excited to prove that women with her level of life experience still have a lot to offer.
Joan believes that older women have valuable knowledge from living their lives. In our society, aging is often seen as losing value and taking a backseat to younger generations. Joan hopes to change this perception by showing that older women are still vibrant, fun, and tech-savvy.
The Golden Bachelorette premieres this fall on ABC.
