But Jewel believed she had found her soulmate when she married Ty Murray, a rodeo cowboy, in 2008 after a decade of being together.
After six years of marriage, Jewel and Murray divorced in 2014. Instead of turning to destructive behaviors, the Grammy winner channeled her heartbreak into her work.
In September 2015, she told Time, "Most people go through a divorce and are like, 'Why didn't I just get drunk and have meaningless sex?' And I write a memoir and a heartbreaking record, peel off every scab I've ever healed and stick my finger in them and write about it. That's how I dealt with it. But I think it was the best thing I could have done."

Jewel has captured the hearts of many stars over the years.
During the height of her career in the 90s, the singer famously dated Sean Penn and Chris Douglas. However, it was with Ty Murray that Jewel thought she had found The One. They wed in 2008 after almost a decade of dating. In 2014, Jewel and Murray divorced after six years of marriage. After the breakup, the Grammy winner decided to channel her heartbreak into her work.
In September 2015, she shared with Time, "It's interesting, most people go through a divorce and are like, ‘Why didn't I just get drunk and have meaningless sex?’ And me? I wrote a memoir and a heartbreaking record, uncovering every old wound and writing about it. That was my way of coping and I truly believe it was the best decision I could have made."
After separating from quarterback Charlie Whitehurst in 2017, Jewel began dating Kevin Costner in 2023 following his divorce from Christine Baumgartner.

Penn first encountered Jewel in 1995 when he saw her performance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Impressed with her singing, he contacted her team and asked her to compose a song for his film The Crossing Guard, which resulted in the creation of the track "Emily." During their collaboration, Penn developed feelings for the talented musician. In her memoir, Never Broken, Jewel recalled their frequent phone conversations, describing Penn as a charming flirt. However, she was aware of the possibility that she was just a passing fancy to him and was determined not to give in to his advances. Despite his persistence, she made him work for her affection, leading to him actively pursuing her while she was on tour, even taking on the role of her roadie.
Their romance fizzled out within the year.

Ty Murray
In 1999, Jewel and Murray met and eventually got married in the Bahamas in 2008. Their son Kase was born in July 2011. However, three years later, they announced their decision to divorce. "Ty and I have always strived to live authentically, and we wanted our separation to be as loving as our coming together," she wrote on her blog in July 2014. "We have been going through a private and difficult, but caring process of redefining our relationship with love, rather than hostility."

During a Caribbean vacation in December 2023, Jewel and the Yellowstone actor were seen getting close. According to an exclusive source, their relationship developed "naturally" due to their mutual passion for country music.
