Jason Kelce couldn’t believe how much Rob McElhenney bid on Kylie Kelce‘s signed Philadelphia Eagles jacket — and the actor just one-upped himself.
During the November 15 episode of his "New Heights" podcast with his younger brother Travis Kelce, Jason, aged 36, expressed his appreciation for Rob McElhenney, aged 46, while discussing the ongoing auction to support the Eagles Autism Foundation. The auction includes a vintage letterman jacket signed by Kylie, aged 31, which was inspired by a piece once worn by Princess Diana. The current bid stands at over $20,000, with Rob McElhenney previously holding the highest bid at $10,050.
After the episode aired, the star of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" made his presence known in the discussion. He tweeted, "Hey @JasonKelce and @tkelce, you better refresh!" Jason responded, "Man, I'm trying, but I think you just crashed the site!"
In a later post, McElhenney shared a screenshot to prove that he had reclaimed his position as the highest bidder in the auction. He bid $35,000 for the jacket with an autograph.
Earlier this month, the Eagles made an announcement regarding the comeback of the "iconic" kelly green jacket in their pro shop. The team's official Twitter account expressed their understanding of the anticipation surrounding this item with a tweet that said, "We know you've been waiting for this one."
For a price of $400, fans have the opportunity to purchase the throwback jacket. However, it is important to note that Kylie's signed jacket is generating even higher returns. McElhenney initially placed his bid on November 8 and tweeted, "A great cause and the greatest jacket ever made? Yes please. @JasonKelce @Eagles @eaglesautism."
McElhenney has openly expressed his affection for Jason's NFL team and even confessed that the Eagles served as a partial inspiration for his decision to acquire the Welsh soccer team Wrexham A.F.C. alongside Ryan Reynolds, co-owning the team with him. Their joint venture is chronicled in the FX show Welcome to Wrexham.
During an interview on Takeoff With John Clark in September 2022, McElhenney shared his profound belief that witnessing the Eagles' victory in the Super Bowl ranks as one of the most momentous occasions in his life. The collective joy and passion demonstrated by the community during the celebration left an indelible mark on him. He expressed his desire to replicate such a contagious sense of unity and fervor at Wrexham.
Comparing the two sports fandoms, he observed, "The people of Wrexham are strikingly similar to those of Philadelphia."
Jason's love for Philly runs just as deep, as he has been a central player for the Eagles since 2011. In fact, he recently surpassed Jon Runyan's record of 144 consecutive starts in regular season games, setting a new team record.
Since Travis, 34, started dating Taylor Swift in September, the spotlight on Jason and his family has intensified. Although Jason initially had reservations about the increased level of attention, he couldn't help but express his excitement over his brother's blossoming romance during their podcast episode on Wednesday.
"I had a great time following it on social media," Jason remarked after Travis shared his experience of supporting Swift, 33, at one of her Eras Tour concerts in Argentina over the weekend. "The joy on your face was evident. I'm really glad you had such a great time."
