Irresistible Holiday Bliss Eludes Ryan Gosling in 'Unwrapping the Joy: A Sneak Peek of 'Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)'

Ryan Gosling is excited to kick off the holiday season with a new Christmas rendition of his Barbie anthem. His spouse, Eva Mendes, offered fans a sneak peek of "I'm Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)" on Instagram on Monday, December 18. In the brief video, the 43-year-old actor can be seen standing alongside Mark Ronson, who produced the Barbie soundtrack, in a music studio as grand symphonic music fills the room.

While listening, Gosling leans in and adjusts the volume on a track labeled “KEN,” revealing a holiday version of “I’m Just Ken,” Gosling’s popular song from Barbie. Ronson, 48, is not pleased with someone altering his soundboard, even if it's a star from the year's biggest film. The “Uptown Funk” co-creator restores Gosling's vocals to their original level, prompting Ryan to raise them again. Ronson, feeling frustrated, tries to fix the vocals, but ultimately decides to leave the studio, leaving the situation to Gosling. The final mix of “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)” will be released on December 20th.

“I’m Not Ken” marked Gosling's first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 87 in August. Prior to this, Gosling, who was a member of the rock duo Dead Man’s Bones, had previously appeared on Billboard’s Jazz and Jazz Digital Song Sales Chart with “City of Stars” from 2016’s La La Land. Despite this, the song did not make it onto the Hot 100.

Ryan Gosling plays the role of Ken in the Warner Bros. Pictures movie "Barbie". The song "I'm Just Ken" from the movie was a Billboard hit and has received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 81st annual Golden Globes. It will be competing with songs from other movies, including "Addicted to Romance" by Bruce Springsteen from She Came to Me, "Peaches" by Jack Black from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and two other tracks from the Barbie soundtrack titled "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish and "Dance The Night" by Dua Lipa.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will feature a similar showdown. The nominees for Best Song Written for Visual Media include "What Was I Made For?," "Dance The Night," and "I’m Just Ken." Also nominated is Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World.” The only non-Barbie song in the category is Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
