In response to estranged wife Teyana Taylor's allegations of feeling endangered in their relationship before filing for divorce, Iman Shumpert denied the claims, stating that Taylor cannot prove he made her feel unsafe, according to court documents obtained by TMZ on Thursday, December 7th.
Taylor cited “cruel treatment” as the reason for ending their seven-year marriage. Cruel and inhuman treatment in divorce law includes physical, verbal, sexual, or emotional mistreatment that endangers the plaintiff's well-being.
Shumpert denied the claims, stating that their divorce was due to an "irretrievable broken bond." He asked for the allegations to be removed from Taylor’s motion and emphasized his responsibility towards their two daughters, Junie, 8, and Rue, 3.
Taylor announced in September that she and Shumpert had been separated “for a while” but remained committed to coparenting their children.
Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor were spotted at STK Chicago on February 14, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois. The couple clarified on Instagram on September 17 that infidelity was not a factor in their decision to part ways. They emphasized that they remain close friends, strong business partners, and effective co-parents to their two children.
Taylor emphasized, "Above all, we are a family. In our 10 years together, and 7 years married, we've never toyed with or undermined that. We simply keep certain matters private, which is why we've been able to separate peacefully and successfully without interference." Last month, news surfaced that Taylor filed for divorce in January. In her filing, she alleged that Shumpert is a jealous narcissist and often feels inadequate. (We contacted Shumpert for comment at that time.)
