Gisele Bündchen, the supermodel, shared her experience of overcoming depression and anxiety from her youth, calling it a "long journey."
During an appearance on The View on Thursday, March 21, the 43-year-old mentioned that she was unaware of the connection between her lifestyle and mental health, with food playing a significant role in her struggles. She was promoting her new cookbook, Nourish.
Bündchen shared that she had a fast-paced life as a teenager. At age 14, she became independent from her parents to focus on modeling. By the time she was 15, she was already traveling the world. However, it wasn't until her early twenties that she started to have severe panic attacks.
She mentioned that she felt lost and scared during those moments. One of the scariest things about panic attacks is the constant fear of having another one.
Panic attacks are intense feelings of fear that can cause physical symptoms such as a racing heart, fast breathing, and sweating. They may even feel like a heart attack, as described by the Cleveland Clinic. Unlike anxiety attacks, panic attacks come on suddenly and are typically treated with therapy, medication, or a combination of both.

"I wanted to feel better, so I decided to consult with a naturopath. He told me, 'Gisele, we need to change your diet.' I was surprised and asked, 'What does my diet have to do with my panic attacks?' He explained, 'It actually has everything to do with it.' I shared with him my habits of drinking, smoking, and consuming coffee throughout the day. He quickly intervened and said, 'Stop right there. You're not getting enough sleep, constantly changing time zones, and eating poorly.'"
Gisele Bündchen's naturopath recommended a new routine for her, which included changing her diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising daily. This lifestyle change made a big difference in her mental health and overall well-being.
After experiencing a difficult year and a half, Gisele noticed a significant shift in her life. She began practicing meditation, yoga, and breath work, which helped her become a different person. It was a long journey, but worth it in the end.
Some followers were surprised last year when Bündchen announced she was releasing a cookbook. However, the former Victoria’s Secret model has been sharing recipes and healthy lifestyle tips on social media for some time.
Nourish: Simple Recipes to Empower Your Body and Feed Your Soul will be available on bookshelves starting Tuesday, March 26.
