Topaz abilities
Topaz, the first Fire Hunt character in Honkai: Star Rail, arrives with blazing intensity. In her role as a debt collector for the Interastral Peace Corporation, she diligently carries out her duties, infused with empathy that stems from her upbringing on a dying planet. Accompanying her is Numby, a remarkable Space Trotter capable of unleashing devastating attacks on enemies through their follow-up strikes. Mastering these follow-up attacks is crucial to their playstyle, necessitating a thorough understanding of how to maximize their effectiveness. To create an optimal Topaz build, it is essential to ascertain the best Light Cones, Relics, and team compositions.
Topaz abilities
The crux of Topaz and Numby's offensive power lies in their follow-up attacks. Consequently, many of their abilities are designed to bolster not only their own follow-up strikes but also those of their allies.
Topaz and Numby form a dynamic duo, much like Jing Yuan and the Lightning-Lord. Numby operates independently, dealing damage that effectively functions as a follow-up attack. Let's delve into a breakdown of Topaz and Numby's abilities, commencing at Level 1 without factoring in Traces leveling.
Basic attack: Deficit...
When Topaz performs her basic attack, she inflicts a portion of her ATK on a single target. It is important to consider this when using abilities that focus on follow-up attacks.
Skill: Difficulty Paying?
Topaz selects a single target and applies a Proof of Debt marker to them, increasing the damage they receive from follow-up attacks by 25%. Additionally, Numby inflicts Fire DMG equivalent to 75% of Topaz's ATK on this target as follow-up attack damage.
Difficulty Paying? only applies to one target at a time, so you won't be able to use her skill to affect the entire team. Topaz will randomly apply Proof of Debt to an enemy when an ally's turn begins, but only if there are currently no enemies marked with the debuff.
Topaz and Numby have the potential to dominate with their subsequent attacks.
Ultimate: Turn a Profit!
Numby enters a unique state known as "Windfall Bonanza!", which boosts its damage multiplier by 75 percent and critical damage by 12 percent. Windfall Bonanza will remain in effect until Numby performs two actions.
Talent: Trotter Market!?
At the beginning of the battle, Topaz automatically calls upon the assistance of Numby. When it is Numby's turn, they will unleash fiery damage that is equivalent to 75 percent of Topaz's Attack Power onto any enemy that has been affected by Topaz's Proof of Debt. Additionally, Numby's actions are further enhanced by 50 percent whenever an ally launches an attack on the afflicted enemy. It is important to note that Numby's attacks are considered follow-up attacks.
Technique: Explicit Subsidy
When Topaz activates her Technique, Numby has the ability to detect Basic Treasures and Trotters. Furthermore, after Numby's initial attack in the next battle, Topaz will regenerate 60 Energy. If Topaz remains on the team after the battle, she will receive a modest amount of Credits as a form of compensation.
Ascension Passives
Ascension 2 Passive--Overdraft: Converts Topaz's Basic ATK damage into subsequent damage.
Ascension 4 Passive--Financial Turmoil: Enhances Topaz and Numby’s DMG against Fire-vulnerable enemies by 15 percent.
Best Light Cone for Topaz
Concerning Ascension 6, there is a Technical Adjustment that enhances Topaz's abilities. Specifically, whenever Numby engages in an attack while being in the Windfall Bonanza! state, Topaz is able to regenerate 10 Energy.
Best Light Cone for Topaz
When it comes to Light Cones, Worrisome Blissful, despite being quite costly, is considered to be the optimal choice for Topaz. It is worth mentioning that several five-star Hunt Light Cones work exceptionally well in synergy with Topaz. These Light Cones primarily focus on enhancing overall damage, including increasing ATK power, providing ability buffs, boosting Crit DMG, and improving Crit Rate. As a result, they generally benefit any DPS character.
Topaz's most notable Light Cone is her exclusive Worrisome, Blissful. This particular Light Cone significantly enhances her Critical Rate and the Critical Damage of her follow-up attacks, granting her a distinct advantage as a follow-up-focused damage-dealer. However, acquiring this Light Cone requires an extensive amount of resources and is only available for a limited time, causing many players to overlook it.
Fortunately, while navigating through the Stellar Sea, Topaz can make use of the five-star Hunt Light Cone that can be obtained freely as a part of the game's free-to-play experience. This Light Cone complements Topaz's abilities well enough that it negates the necessity of obtaining a slightly superior Light Cone through gacha mechanics. Players can acquire this Hunt Light Cone by successfully battling their way through Herta's Simulated Universe.
Alternatively, if luck is on your side, Sleep Like The Dead, a five-star Hunt Light Cone that can be obtained through gacha banners, can also serve as a viable option for Topaz.
As previously mentioned, Cruising in the Stellar Sea is an exceptional Light Cone option that stands above its four-star equivalents. Therefore, it is not advisable to invest resources in inferior alternatives. In case you are unable to acquire Cruising in the Stellar Sea at the moment or need it for another character, Swordplay or Only Silence Remains can be considered suitable substitutes.
If none of the aforementioned options are available, Arrows or Darting Arrow (for battles involving multiple enemies) can be used temporarily. However, it is recommended to replace them with a superior Light Cone as soon as the opportunity arises.
She may not hold the title of the top IPC debt collector, but Topaz certainly knows how to make some impressive moves. Here are the descriptions for each Light Cone mentioned above (at Level 1):
Worrisome, Blissful (5-star): This enchanting Light Cone boosts the wearer's CRIT Rate by 18 percent and enhances the damage dealt from follow-up attacks by 30 percent. Additionally, every Tame stack obtained when allies strike enemy targets under the Tame state raises the CRIT DMG received by 12 percent.
Cruising in the Stellar Sea (5-star): Enhances the wearer's CRIT rate by 8%, and amplifies their CRIT rate against enemies with HP below or equal to 50% by an additional 8%. Following the wearer's victory over an enemy, boosts ATK by 20% for 2 turns.
Sleep Like The Dead (5-star): Augments the wearer's CRIT DMG by 30%. When the wearer's Basic ATK or Skill fails to land a CRIT Hit, amplifies their CRIT Rate by 36% for 1 turn. This effect can only activate once every 3 turns.
Swordplay (4-star): When the wearer repeatedly strikes the same target, the damage dealt will progressively increase by 8 percent, accumulating up to 5 times. This effect will be nullified once the wearer switches targets.
Only Silence Remains (4-star): Enhances the wearer's ATK by 16 percent. If there are 2 or fewer enemies present, the wearer's CRIT Rate will be boosted by 12 percent.
Arrows (3-star): The wearer's CRIT Rate increases by 12 percent for 3 turns at the beginning of the battle.
Darting Arrow (3-star): Upon defeating an enemy, the wearer's ATK is elevated by 24 percent for 3 turns.
Best Relics for Topaz
While Four-piece Firesmith can be an option, it may not be the best choice for Topaz. In her trial run, Topaz comes with a four-piece Firesmith of Lava-Forging and two-piece Inert Salsotto build. However, for better efficiency, it is recommended to equip her with a two-piece Firesmith and two-piece Musketeer of Wild Wheat. Let's take a closer look at the effects of both Relic sets:
Firesmith of Lava-Forging
Two-piece bonus: Enhances Fire damage by 10 percent.
Four-piece bonus: Enhances the wielder's Skill damage by 12 percent. After activating the Ultimate ability, boosts the wielder's Fire damage by 12 percent for the subsequent attack.
Musketeer of Wild Wheat
Two-piece effect: ATK increases by 12 percent.
Four-piece bonus: The wearer experiences a 6 percent acceleration in SPD and a 10 percent boost in Basic ATK DMG.
Equipping a full set of Firesmith gear enhances Topaz's abilities. Nevertheless, this enhancement may not hold much significance as her skill does not directly inflict damage on enemies. Instead, it empowers Numby for subsequent attacks. While an increase in Fire DMG does technically enhance the power of her Ultimate, an overall ATK increase is generally more advantageous. This ensures that all of her attacks, including her Ultimate, benefit from the augmentation.
Topaz stands out among the characters in benefiting more from Inert Salsotto than from Space Sealing Station when it comes to Ornaments. The focus of Topaz on follow-up attacks is directly complemented by the special effect of Inert Salsotto. However, if you are unable to acquire a set with ideal substats or do not have enough Crit Rate to activate the effect, it is recommended to go for a two-piece set of Space Sealing Station instead.
Inert Salsotto enhances the wearer's CRIT Rate by 8 percent. When the wearer's current CRIT Rate reaches 50 percent or higher, both the wearer's Ultimate and follow-up attack damage will increase by 15 percent.
Topaz's Relic stats
To maximize your effectiveness as an IPC debt collector, it is crucial to enhance your attack power. Most of Topaz and Numby's attacks rely on ATK, so it is advisable to elevate this attribute as much as possible. Therefore, we recommend prioritizing ATK when selecting a feet Relic and Link Rope. While SPD is important for gaining an advantage in the turn economy, it can be enhanced to a satisfactory level with the help of buffs from allies. On the other hand, Energy Regeneration holds less significance compared to ATK since Topaz's Ultimate ability is not as impactful as the more useful skills in her arsenal.
If you select the Inert Salsotto as your Ornament set, it is crucial to increase your Crit Rate to trigger the special effect. A five-star body piece with Crit Rate can provide a maximum of 32.4 percent, allowing you to fill the remaining 50 percent requirement with sub stats from other Relics. Another option is to opt for a Crit DMG body piece if you have a notable amount of Crit Rate from sub stats or if you choose the Space Sealing Station as your Ornament set.
Please note that all Relic pieces have the same sub stats: ATK, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, and SPD. These stats are significant for any DPS or carry character. Obtaining all of them in a single Relic may not be possible, but acquiring at least three (or two, if you are willing to take a risk) should suffice.
Relic | Main Stat | Sub-Stat |
Body | Crit DMG, Crit Rate | ATK, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, SPD |
Feet | ATK, SPD | ATK, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, SPD |
Sphere | Fire DMG | ATK, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, SPD |
Link Rope | ATK, Energy Regeneration | ATK, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, SPD |
Best teams for Topaz
Ideal teammates for Topaz are Clara or Jing Yuan due to their strong follow-up attacks. However, any character with a follow-up attack can benefit from her buffs as well. It is recommended to mix and match characters based on type weaknesses.
Here are a few examples of teams that can work well with Topaz. At the bottom of the list, we have included a free-to-play option.
Asta, a valuable member of Topaz's team, proves her worth even outside of debt-collecting scenarios. Alongside Clara, Lynx, and Topaz, Asta contributes greatly to the team's success. Clara excels in benefiting from follow-up buffs and diverting enemy attention away from allies. Lynx, with her ability to restore HP and remove debuffs, surpasses Natasha as the preferred choice. Asta, in particular, shines as an exceptional companion for any Topaz-centered team, boosting ATK and SPD. For even greater effectiveness, equip Asta with the Planetary Rendevous to enhance Topaz's Fire DMG.
Clara, similar to Jing Yuan, can utilize Topaz's follow-up buffs through her Lightning-Lord ability, without the need for taunting. Additionally, Tingyun's energy recharge skill aids in ensuring Lynx's continuous healing for the entire team.
Luocha, the game's most powerful healer, inflicts immense Imaginary DMG onto enemies. While Tingyun remains the superior choice in this specific scenario, Yukong also offers impressive support buffs (and she's available for free).
On March 7th, Natasha and Asta (free-to-play) both possess unique abilities that synergize with Topaz's follow-up theme. Natasha, equipped with a shield, activates a follow-up attack when an enemy strikes an ally under her protection. While March may not be able to defend all allies simultaneously, Natasha's healing abilities come into play to assist those who are left unprotected. Additionally, both Natasha and Asta are capable of dispelling debuffs using their special Skills.
Editor's P/S
As an enthusiastic fan of Honkai: Star Rail, I am thrilled to see the introduction of Topaz, the first Fire Hunt character, and her companion, Numby. Their unique abilities and playstyle centered around follow-up attacks add an exciting new dynamic to the game.
The synergy between Topaz and Numby is truly remarkable. Topaz's skills, such as Proof of Debt and Difficulty Paying?, set the stage for Numby to unleash devastating follow-up attacks. Numby's Windfall Bonanza! state further enhances their damage potential, making them a formidable force on the battlefield. The addition of Numby's ability to detect Basic Treasures and Trotters through their Technique provides an additional layer of utility to the team.
