According to Matthew Koma, Hilary Duff doesn't appear to be awake on Saturday nights. In a TikTok video shared on July 12th, Koma, 36, jokingly mentioned that his wife's "beige flag" is her tendency to fall asleep just 8 minutes into a movie on Saturday nights, despite having sung a song about waking up on Saturday nights. The video showed Duff, 35, sleeping on the couch while her popular song "Wake Up" played in the background.
After Koma uploaded the funny video, fans immediately flocked to the comments to discuss Duff's habit of falling asleep during movies. One user humorously suggested, "Hey, that's Miss Lizzie McGuire! Let her get some rest. Go find Isabella instead, she's probably awake in a different time zone." This comment alludes to Duff's look-alike character from the popular film, The Lizzie McGuire Movie released in 2003.
The musician, who has two children with his wife, is known for playfully teasing her on TikTok. In January 2022, during a family dinner, Duff thought she saw her ex-boyfriend Jason Walsh, whom she dated in 2016. Koma decided to have a little fun and recorded a video pretending to spot Walsh.
"Hil thinks her ex-boyfriend might be sitting at the restaurant near us, but she's not sure," Koma said in the video. "Jason! Jason! Is that him? Is he looking?"
Duff's face flushed immediately as she pleaded with her husband, "Can you please put an end to this?"
Koma didn't solely target Walsh when it came to teasing Duff about their past flames. The actress disclosed that he found pleasure in making jokes about her when they became neighbors with her ex, Joel Madden, and his spouse, Nicole Richie.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in January, Duff shared that her husband's troll-like nature is actually one of her favorite qualities about him. She recalled a specific incident where, after moving in together, Matt photoshopped a picture of her, Joel, and Joel's brother Benji Madden, wishing her a "Happy Valentine's Day, honey." The actress-turned-singer elaborated on the experience, shedding light on what it's like to be the target of her husband's mischievous pranks.
"It's national spouse day, and I've been informed about it. Matthew, you constantly tease and challenge me, but I adore you immensely. You're like my personal troll. Please stay with me," she wrote alongside an Instagram picture of herself with her spouse.
Duff and Koma's connection sparked in 2015 when they collaborated on Duff's album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. Although they briefly ended their relationship in March 2017, they reignited their love almost eight months later.
The pair revealed their pregnancy in June 2018 and welcomed their first child, a daughter named Banks, in October of the same year. Prior to this, Duff already had a son named Luca, 11, from her previous marriage with Mike Comrie. Showing their commitment, Koma proposed to Duff in May 2019, and they got married less than a year later. Their family expanded once again in March 2021 with the birth of their second daughter, Mae.
Reflecting on their journey, Duff shared in June 2019 how the experience of having a baby with Koma had only strengthened their bond as a couple.
"The addition of a baby to our lives has strengthened our bond and brought us even closer. We are now happier and more deeply in love than ever before, making the engagement feel like the perfect decision," Duff revealed exclusively to We. "We are excitedly looking forward to a future filled with love and commitment. It was a delightful surprise from him, and without hesitation, I said, 'Yes!' He holds a special place in my heart, just after my children. He understands that they will always come first."
